Hello everybody, welcome to season freaking 10 of the upbeat dietitians.
Well, we've made it so far so far, and we wanted to start off this season strong because a lot has happened since we have recorded.
0:26
And today we're gonna be talking about Maha.
I always say this so like you.
Think of Amanda Bynes.
Yep, Maha, that's what I say every time.
I feel like.
We're gonna get discredited right away from that, but that's OK.
0:44
They'll.
Be like, you can't even say it right.
All right?
It's also making America healthy again.
Tell us a a good way to say it, Maha.
Oh, I like that.
With like a different accent, Maha.
Sorry, it's just not a good word.
1:01
It's it's a laugh.
We're laughing so we don't cry.
We're in that kind.
Of a Yeah.
Mentality here.
But before we get into all of it, and there's going to be a lot today, so definitely make sure you are sat or plan to listen to the same parts because we're going to be here for a bit.
1:20
Make sure you're subscribed to YouTube where you get to see exclusive interesting little effects we add there and you get to see our beautiful faces.
Also, we have exclusive content on sub stack, so make sure you go subscribe over there and that's completely free, which we love.
1:39
We're going to talk about Maha.
I'm trying to make it nice so we don't.
I know I wanted to say like grab a snack with some GMOs, some seed oil, some red. 40 Actually pour some sesame seed oil into your genetically modified corn and then pour some red dye on that to make it spooky.
2:05
Make sure you're vaccinated too before tuning in.
Go get a quick flu shot, then hop back on to the episode.
We always say comments are like, stay out of this.
Nutrition isn't this.
And now it's going to be keep nutrition out of politics or keep politics out of nutrition or whatever.
2:21
And food has always been political.
We've talked about politics many times on here.
And the reason it's now so much in your face is because there's an entire campaign around it called Make America Healthy Again.
So we're going to do a deep dive into this and what it could mean for our future.
2:43
Yeah, yeah.
On that point though, before we get too much further, like we said, buckle up for a long 1 today probably.
We weren't very old at the time.
So it was like what, 2008?
So we're like 11 with Michelle Obama's like plans for.
We were in.
We were like 11 years old.
3:00
Yeah, So if someone comes at you like if you're our age, you know, late 20s ish, and they're like, where were you when you weren't talking about this?
And Michelle Obama had her America healthy.
Whatever it was called back then.
3:15
I don't even know what it was called because I was 11.
We were 11.
We were in like, what, 5th grade?
And I didn't have thoughts about politics back then.
We were oblivious to what was going on on.
Whatever our parents maybe had said about it if they mentioned politics at home.
3:33
Yeah, so and none of that.
If it feels like you're hearing more about it, like Emily said, it's because it's now being talked about a lot with the whole Maha thing.
But also, if you happen to follow like Emily or I and you see us talking about politics more, it's because like, we're getting older and more involved in politics and like we're becoming, I wouldn't say we're seasoned dietitians yet, but we're becoming seasoned dietitians and very quickly learning how interconnected the two worlds are.
4:02
Yeah.
OK, well I put in the notes in case you missed it.
Donald Trump has become the president-elect, I feel like.
In case you've been living under a rock.
You probably already knew that.
Even if you don't live in the US, you probably already knew that.
4:18
That's a whole, not that's.
A whole other podcast.
We have we have a different star of today's show, and his name is Robert F Kennedy Junior.
Trump has nominated him for the Secretary of Health and Human Services position for we at this point, we will know it's not confirmed.
4:39
He still has to go through the process of, like, being confirmed by the US Senate.
We've already seen with other positions.
What, just 'cause they're nominated doesn't mean they're gonna get confirmed.
Yeah, thank God.
Sometimes bullying works.
4:55
That's one of my favorite things to come out on that.
You know that TikTok sound?
Thank God.
Yeah, one down, quite a few more to go, but he not included a tweet that RFK Junior included or he posted about on October 25th, 2024, which was about a month ago.
5:17
Before Election Day.
Before Election Day, this really sets the mood for what we're going to talk about today.
But he tweeted FD as war on public health is about to end.
This includes its aggressive suppression of psychedelics, peptides, stem cells, raw milk, hyperbaric therapies, chelating compounds, ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, Queen Quinn.
5:51
Never said that either.
Also, I think it's chelating compounds just for those in the comments who are going to probably attack you for that.
Guys know if you're here, it's not you.
You can't use that against me.
I say as far to me, like get off my back.
Yeah.
Clearly I have other issues going.
6:08
Yeah, we'll, we'll include a screenshot of the tweet on the on the YouTube.
What else?
What else are we suppressing?
Vitamins.
Clean foods?
Sunshine.
Sunshine, maybe?
That's my favorite we're.
Suppressing the sun, exercise, nutriceuticals and anything else that advances human health and can't be patent and patented by pharma as he's referencing Big Pharma Pharma.
6:31
Capital P with AP Big P if you work.
For the FDA and are part of this corrupt system, I have two messages for you.
One, preserve your records, and two, pack your bags.
It's crazy that someone who says pack your bags is also asking for your vote.
6:50
Yeah, it's, I mean, it's the like very successful hate campaign campaign that's working, is attacking and being aggressive.
People enjoy that.
And that's the theme of this whole thing we'll talk about today is just like click bait and rage bait and hate and anger.
7:11
It works.
Yeah.
I love the sunshine.
Like the FDA is suppressing sunshine.
Like what?
That's my favorite one.
Like this is like very much we're we're going full into politics when like they're saying, Democrats were controlling the Hurricanes to take out the southern States and now the FDA is suppressing the sun.
7:33
Like where were you on the beautiful days claiming that it's the Democrats fault?
Like maybe it's our fault, but it's nice outside too.
Yeah, like we, we don't even know like 70% of the ocean.
You think we have control over the sun?
Like, Oh yeah.
7:51
Let's not, okay?
I could pick apart this tweet so much.
There's so much, so much.
More and all this is going to come up anyway, so.
Well, okay, so like Emily said, he's not officially in this position yet.
And on the Maha website, they said, I'll put the quote on the screen too.
8:09
But quote, before RFK junior can assume office, he must be confirmed by the US Senate, a process that will face opposition from senators influenced by corporate lobbyists tied to Big Pharma and Big AG.
So basically they're saying that he there's a risk of him not getting this position because big pharma doesn't want him in there, which I mean, fair enough if he's saying pack your bags, big pharma.
8:31
I will know he does have a point with the lobbying, but that can be applied to a lot of things with our issue of lobbying, so I don't.
You don't really get to pick and choose which big corporations you're upset with when the entire system is bad 'cause it's just monetize bribing essentially.
8:55
But anyway.
I wanted to make later too and talking about like farming and AG and big food corporations.
We'll get there, but I guess I'll say this part now goes into episode 136, I think it was.
We'll link it below.
We talked about, in case you missed that, the post from the Washington Post about dietitians being paid by Big Food and how is everyone to stay sick.
9:20
Listen to that one after this one because we talked more about like why that claim is BS.
We'll go over it more today too, but we are not pro Big Food, Big Pharma, Big whatever.
It's just that this plan, making America healthy again is going to like, take that all to the ground is what their goal is anyway.
9:40
And that's not necessarily a good thing because there's a reason why Big Pharma and Big Food exist.
They make it so we have the access to food that we do.
It's not perfect.
It's not great, but we can't rely on small food companies and small farms because there's not enough being produced from them, unfortunately.
10:00
It'd be great if we could, but completely trying to dismantle those is gonna shake things up in a way that is gonna make your eggs really expensive.
I'm about to say your groceries are about to get really expensive.
Exactly.
10:15
One last note on just like background, and so I guess we can call it, you may have seen too that Doctor Oz has been picked as well.
Again, not voted in yet or anything, but Doctor Oz was Trump's pick for CMS, which is the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which operates under HHHS.
10:35
So basically RFK Junior would be Doctor Oz's boss, I think is how that would work.
And along with CMS, other agencies within HHHS, my gosh, are the CDC, CMS, like I just said, the FDA, NIH, and then a bunch of others as well that aren't noteworthy for us as much.
10:53
But basically, like he said in his tweet, like he's going to be overseeing the FDA, the CDC, all these big companies, that governmental companies that play a huge role in how our food is regulated.
Scary, scary.
I think we've already kind of said we get what we'll list what make America healthy again is in case to really right doctor make America healthy again is about igniting a health revolution.
11:20
America.
We aim to dismantle the corporate strangle hold on our government agencies that have that has led to widespread chronic disease, environmental degradation, degradation.
I can't say anything and rampant public distrust, which is so interesting to me.
11:40
When you look at these like separately, I'm like, yes, there are issues here.
I I was just like just reading that statement and be like, oh, totally.
Like there is widespread chronic disease.
Our environment is falling apart.
There is public distress, distrust.
11:57
But then we look more specifically into like what it is, and it's just like a it's a political campaign.
Exactly.
That's the crazy part.
I think that's why we get so many comments all the time lately about like, oh, why are you so against this?
12:13
Like, this is obviously the best thing for us.
It's improving health and the environment and all of that.
And like, at a surface level, yeah, it totally looks like that, like we just demonstrated.
But if you look at what RFK Junior actually wants, which we'll get to, there's bigger fish to fry, as again, we'll discuss.
12:31
We're getting ahead of ourselves a little bit.
At least I am.
And then of course, the merch.
The merch.
Which like, I kind of like at one point I was like, of course, like this is a campaign to make money.
But then I was like, wait, I understand trying to make money too.
12:49
So I understand that side of it.
But I don't love the message that's getting pushed out.
That's like the like, make your little cute little merch.
Oh.
I'm not anti.
Merch.
Is it even cute?
Hold on, I need to.
This needs to be right now.
13:07
It's getting.
Barney it is.
This is so ugly.
Make it cute, at least.
The most boring basic font.
I could make this on Canva in 2 minutes.
Yeah, well they're not known for putting the most qualified people in the positions that they need.
13:26
I doubt they have a definite designer in this position.
Also, the website is garbage.
Oh this is so disappointing how ugly this is.
I like the T-shirt that has the link on it.
It's like on Schitt's Creek when what's his name, the dad he like makes those coasters for their hotel, Their motel that has like the actual like links on it that you can't click on the coaster.
13:49
Yeah, I love some good merch.
Same.
It needs to be cute.
We used to have cute merch.
Yeah.
Guys, do you want us to bring back our merch?
We want to bring it back.
We want.
To bring it back bad.
We have so many ideas that'd be better than this.
We get so many comments lately about us being like Mean Girls, and in this instance, I can't see where they're coming from.
14:10
The thing is, I would say I'm a mean girl.
I would not say you are a mean girl.
So I'm like fine with that.
But also this episode, I'm waiting for it to just set me off because something I feel like, you know when our frontal lobes developed at 25.
14:27
I remember the day it happened, yes.
November 5th Something clicked in my brain and I was just like, we're not gonna be nice anymore.
So yeah, we're gonna be mean, but also it's nothing compared to what these people are.
14:47
So I.
Was gonna say we're not sexual predators.
I was gonna say.
Both of us are allowed to be near children.
So.
That's if we're going to be a little bit mean with our words, I think that's.
I think making fun of their merch is less mean than cheating on your multiple wives.
15:11
What do I know?
Who?
Who are we to say?
Anyway, let's talk a little bit more about RFK Junior.
I didn't know he was the nephew of John F Kennedy.
I was wondering the relation.
I had to look it up so I forgot exactly how I didn't.
15:26
I knew he wasn't like his son or like grandson or anything.
But yes, RFK Junior is the nephew of our 35th President, JFK, John F Kennedy.
Yeah, and he is when you look him up on Google, like who is RFK junior?
15:43
He's listed as an environmental lawyer, which plays in a part with a lot of his environmental talking and whatever, which like I was, so I, I'm not going to say I was hopeful from an environmental lawyer standpoint.
I was like, oh, someone finally cares about the environment because no one seems to care about it on either side.
16:07
But no, he's, we're not going to.
He's not good with that.
But it also lists him as a politician and as conspiracy.
What's the word conspiracy?
Theorist.
Theorist.
Yes.
I'm like, ah yes, if you ever see conspiracy theorists near my name.
16:26
I kept seeing like if I googled exactly that, like who is RFK junior?
One of the first couple things like in his list of titles was Anti Vaxxer so that was hilarious.
Oh, that was the other one too.
Yes, if you're seeing those two words together.
Like if that's like in your titles of your credentials, Like what if you knew me as Hannah Thompson, dietitian and anti vaxxer?
16:48
That's crazy to have that like in the first few things someone knows about you.
Yeah, I I mean, as they should.
I'm glad we're putting it out there and we're labeling them as just like that.
It should also put raw milk enthusiasts.
I need to find a way to change.
17:06
That OK, you know how we're going to join Golo's marketing team because we they're we're inspired by them.
I think we should also be in charge of RFK juniors like Instagram bio.
We could put raw milk enthusiast, fluoride hater, I don't know, a bunch of cute emojis.
17:25
Yeah, put a little syringe, anti vax or a little X.
With a little circle with a line.
There or just no words, just the just the X and the syringe.
Yeah, that'd be cute.
So Gen.
Z of us.
I know we can Gen.
Z ify him and then we'll make him his mute merge cuter.
17:43
Yeah, the website we could also.
We're not even graphic designers and we can make their website better.
Anyway.
Anyway, that's just my my evil villain dreams hang out.
We all have a little evil villain and it's OK.
Yours are much nicer than mine so like if.
18:02
OK I want to just preface this.
You guys can call me mean because that's accurate, but you can't call Hannah mean.
Like get your facts straight at.
Least my version of MEAN is just taking over someone's Instagram bio.
My version of mean is literally like conquering the world and like going on a vengeance tour for women and going after men's so.
18:27
As you should, though I wish I was that mean.
I wish.
That's not even mean.
That's like doing the right thing.
We're gonna lose credibility.
Very.
I know, I know.
We're a little biased.
But it's OK, let's talk about.
So we mentioned he's an anti vaxxer just like a quick thing.
18:45
Obviously he thinks it linked to autism.
We don't have to go into that like everyone's 2024.
Let's we're living in the present.
How old is he quick side?
Now I think he's 70.
Quote or don't quote me on that.
Give me a better quote.
19:01
I feel like you're right. 70 OK, I I will say I was Googling today and I think I saw that number somewhere, so that's why I know.
That joined in 1954 January 17th is he.
A Capricorn like me?
Oh no.
Oh no.
19:18
Whatever his enneagram is.
Oh my, she is a Capricorn.
Oh no.
It's OK.
What does this mean?
I need a star expert to let me know if this means something of.
Someone do his Enneagram test, someone who knows him well, and put that in his Instagram bio.
19:40
All right, let's talk about his beliefs.
OK.
Yes, anti vax.
You guys have probably heard about the whole fluoride thing.
He wants to I guess, I don't know the full length of it.
Does he want to get rid of fluoride in all water?
Like what's his plan there?
OK.
Do you want 'cause it's like?
19:57
A Neurotox.
Killing us.
Yeah, yes.
Which BT dubs there's no evidence to support that claim.
Dentists everywhere think that fluoride and water is a very important thing.
Yeah, and also our quality of water is already going down.
20:14
Florida, like Florida's not what we should be focusing on anyway.
OK, the, the law, The short answer to all this is he wants to deregulate everything.
Yeah.
And with deregulation means nothing's being monitored so they can put whatever they want in your water.
20:34
You guys know how we always talk about the supplements being unregulated in the wild Wild West?
Imagine that in your food and water supply.
Every, everywhere, yeah, it's in, it's, it'll be in farming and farm be in pharmaceuticals, like food labels, like pharmaceuticals.
20:52
That's so scary.
That's so scary.
Like we already hate on supplements enough.
It's just so scary to think of that everywhere else.
But he also not only does he hate fluoride.
Which is also a Parks and Rec episode.
21:10
Like, this is literally Pawnee, Indiana happening in real life.
Yes.
But anyway, yes, GMOs, we've discussed it before.
We had an episode where we were on with our friend Damien.
We'll define that in Lincoln 'cause we talked about GMOs with him.
And then like way, way back, we had our friend food scientists, NIA on.
21:28
We'll put that one too.
The GMO conversation has been happening for so long.
You know it's so.
And there's no scientific evidence the GMOs, is it cancer they're afraid of the most.
Cancer's a big one.
I just wrote a blog post on this.
21:44
Cancer's a big one.
Environmental purposes, although they actually can really help environment RFKS.
Other thing is with pesticides, but GMOs can actually, and some crops help us use less pesticides and also use less water, which is another environmental benefit of them.
22:02
So they're overall a very beneficial thing.
And how can you be 70 years old and have 7 decades on the earth and still think that like things like GMOs are of concern?
And like, if you don't believe us, there have been like, hundreds of farmers who have come out since and they're visibly upset.
22:24
And then you could say, oh, they're just big AG.
These are just not real words we're saying, right?
Like no, the farmers are not like they are.
This is our livelihood.
They are the ones that understand how farming works 'cause they are doing it.
22:42
And they're, when they are the ones visibly upset, like take their word for it, 'cause it affects them, it's going to affect their profits.
Cause more plants will die, They'll have to use more water, they'll have to use more resources just to keep the same thing alive.
22:59
We'll have to turn to small.
Like we, we always say support our small local businesses.
But like Hannah said before, that is not enough to supply the American people with food, right?
Like they don't.
23:14
The price we're currently paying.
No.
And also, what makes me so frustrated with a lot of this is especially from a GMO standpoint, a lot of this was implemented because of the dramatic population increase we saw in the 60s all the way through the 90s.
23:36
So they are accommodating this huge population increase because there's more people to feed.
Do you want them to not feed?
Like, do you not?
Do you not want to get fed?
RFK Junior, you were born in. 54 the 50s.
The 50s like this, a lot of this was to accommodate the increase of people.
23:56
It frustrates me so much when they're like, it's just trying to like make the food worse.
I'm like, no, there's a reason for a lot of these things.
There's environmental benefits and one of the biggest things is to feed you and make food more accessible.
24:12
Exactly.
I was gonna say like farmers, their whole goal in life is to feed usually like humans, unless they're like making animal feed or whatever.
But like in this situation, these farmers are like their sole purpose and career is to like literally feed Americans.
24:29
Why would they lie about GMOs being helpful for them if they're actually not?
It just makes the argument that makes no sense whatsoever.
Pesticides too, like also been debunked a million times by farmers and food scientists.
These help farmers grow sustainable crops.
24:45
They have less pests.
And from our standpoint, there's the whole talk about like organic and Dirty Dozen and all of that we've discussed before.
But the bottom line is that pesticides are very strictly regulated currently under the current people in charge.
25:03
And the residue, like the amount of residue on the foods that we're eating are very safe for consumption.
I forget the number, but there's like a chart you can find online.
I wish I all defined it put in the links below.
But it's the one that shows like how many strawberries you'd need to eat before you would have the excess pesticide residue consumption.
25:24
I mean, spoiler alert, it's like thousands of strawberries or something like that, which you're not consuming.
So again, there's just like bigger fish to fry.
It's not the GMOs, the pesticides we need to be worried about here.
And of course, we have seed oils.
The other big one.
I'm so tired of talking about seed oils.
25:40
I'm sick of seed oils.
It's constant on my TikTok.
If you're demonizing seed oils but you're also going out and drinking, I want you to literally like get off the Internet.
No, but like I.
Literally can like touch some grass I've.
25:57
Literally said that though and people will say they will argue with me about red wine being better for you than canola oil.
It's.
They will like stand firm in that belief.
It's wild.
Even though there has been so much research that shows the benefits of red wine don't outweigh the fact it's a like Class 1 carcinogen.
26:20
Yes, it's wild.
I also love the 1:00 where they're like, it's an industrial lubricant, you're eating motor oil.
It's like, have you heard the difference between industrial grade and food grade 'cause we also have industrial water that we use for things.
26:38
You're not drinking the same water that is being used for machine operation.
You're drinking cleaner water than that, but it doesn't mean that water is like bad for you.
It's not industrial sludge.
I have about it's like 40 tik toks on it.
26:53
If you want to hear a rant more about it, I'll spare.
I'll spare you guys here today, but I have a lot of thoughts.
And I'm gonna be mean.
I'm gonna be mean.
They've been more I was self aware that was me before but since we need to really lay it out there at this point.
27:12
Like the alcohol argument just really pisses me off.
It's like if you're choosing to argue alcohol is healthier than seed oils, you're choosing to be incompetent.
They are like that is your choice.
Yes.
To like their reason, I'm telling you November 5th I just lost all patients for like, what is it 74 million people?
27:39
I don't even know what the number was.
You are choosing not to believe experts who have researched this and you're going to say research is backed by big food or whatever.
There's something called critical thinking.
27:55
Not all research is good, but we can interpret research differently and look at the pros and cons of it and make educated conclusions based off of it.
But when there are experts telling you these things and you're just choosing to believe whatever you want because some like mommy Blogger said that your sesame seed oil is going to give her child cancer or who knows what because they literally just like make things up, you are choosing to not be educated on that.
28:32
Yes, because there are ton of experts saying the opposite that you could just as easily learn from.
But like you said, you're you're choosing not to learn from them.
I'm so over it and like it's not cute.
You're not like rebelling.
You're just anti science.
28:51
Anyway, let's talk about the next one 'cause this really grinds my ears.
This one actually is almost up there with seed oils for me in terms of how triggering it is.
Yeah, I feel like this one is yours, but it's been a little bit.
29:07
But to refresh, these are RFK Junior's beliefs.
It's been a little bit to refresh on what we're talking about these things.
Much needed on his tweet he mentioned the raw milk.
He wants less suppression of raw milk and sunshine because currently the FDACDC, like they're over.
29:25
Yeah.
They're they're saying like, don't drink raw milk.
It is dangerous.
Like regulatory bodies, professionals, Emily and I will both say as dietitians, like do not drink raw milk.
But then this lawyer comes in and says that we should get rid of those regulations that are saying not to drink it like.
29:45
Get rid of pasteurization.
Which is crazy.
You know what I love?
When the raw milk, people say to boil your milk first.
I literally want to like jump off the.
Cliff, I want to jump out this window right here and hopefully not land softly.
30:04
I.
Can't it's so this like energy gives medical medium with his celery?
Juice.
Oh my gosh.
You know what if medical medium is also going to be no.
I'm waiting for medical medium to somehow come out.
He's like probably not even AUS citizen.
30:21
Doesn't matter if you were born here or not because Elon Musk is some new position that is not real.
Oh, and that other oh I'm surprised Carnivore MD hasn't gotten nominee.
Yeah, because he is a doctor.
A psychologist, but a doctor.
It's sort of like how Doctor Oz is overseeing insurance, but I don't know a single doctor that knows a single thing about insurance with their patients.
30:45
They have staff who overseas all the insurance stuff for the patients.
I know more about the insurance as a dietician than our medical director.
Yes, it's they don't have time for it.
It's not their fault they don't deal with that, but they have there are.
People.
Yeah.
And also.
31:02
They're not going to do their job.
We are going to talk about Doctor Oz in an upcoming episode, but that's going to be a whole thing because we're sad he's back in our lives.
One quick thing to know about the the raw milk that RFK Junior is really advocating for is there was a recent case actually that just like came out that there was a bird flu found in raw milk in California and there was a recall.
31:29
I will know it was a voluntary recall, but it's already happening.
It's already happening.
But the bird flu like you just.
Boil that a little bit, you pasteurize it.
And we could have avoided it, yeah.
31:46
And you don't lose.
That's the other thing.
You don't lose any of the nutrients.
That's the other giant claim is that it's so much more nutritious.
That's why they're choosing it.
It's literally not.
It's just more risky and more expensive.
That makes me so mad but.
32:04
They think that things that are more expensive must automatically be healthier.
OK, Anyway, yeah, the bottom line with this whole, all of these things that he wants to do, by he, I mean Arfke Junior as a reminder, 'cause we keep getting sidetracked.
Like Emily said, he just wants more deregulation.
32:21
People are not actually going to get healthier with these changes.
No.
Getting rid of seed oils, getting rid of GMOs, getting rid of pesticides is not going to make people healthier.
The fact that I can't get over the fact that getting rid of GMOs is next to less regulations on raw milk makes me like this isn't real.
32:45
We are living in a fever dream.
And we were not trained for this in school.
Like we need to go back and they need to like reschool us because I'm not mentally prepared for this.
They should have put us all in therapy for to learn how to deal with what we would see.
33:00
Honestly we didn't.
We did not get enough skills on how to navigate stuff like this.
This is most of my job is navigating misinformation and I know so many other R DS would agree.
We don't really get to educate that often because so much of our time is spent just debunking all the other crazy shit out there.
33:26
Can I educate?
Can I counsel?
Yeah, pretty good at it.
But I don't get to do it because all my time is spent talking about how seed oils are just fine and carbs are an essential nutrient.
I.
Saw your TikTok about that.
It's very fresh.
As you say, that was a a today thing.
33:44
I just want to quickly go to this other events that happened that really I think are really just illustrates how scary RK Junior's influence can be.
So as we know he's an anti vaxxer cause autism, whatever.
34:04
Correlation does not mean causation.
We've been through this before.
Yeah.
He played a direct influence in children's can We say deaths on YouTube.
I've always avoided saying OK and the unalignment of children in Samoa related to a measles outbreak.
34:29
To give you a very quick timeline 2016 he founds this organization called Trill Children's Health Defense Organization also known as CHD.
They're always promoting Children's Health but are they are they going after the number one a lot on a liver in America.
34:48
No, it's firearms.
Anyway, this organization, it's seen by many scientists, many experts.
If that doesn't convince you, can't help you.
I'm being mean.
That's seen this organization as a perpetrator of spreading harmful misinformation.
35:11
It's seen by many experts.
And people have, like they've said that.
So it's time 2016.
Come 2018, two years later, 2 Samoan infants died from receiving an MMR vaccine or or they unalive they were unalive I.
Think it's too late?
35:27
We've already said it.
YouTube's gonna be like, Stop trying to backtrack.
Yeah.
They're like, what is that word?
Let me try to like, filter it.
MMR is the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.
This was due to a medical error, which is a problem.
35:44
This should not have happened but there was a medical error where the vaccines instead of being diluted with water, it was an anesthetic.
That's a very legitimate issue that we should look at the process of that we're making these vaccines and how can we fix that instead of focusing on the medical layer.
36:02
RFK junior travels his little self over to Samoa.
Didn't even invite him.
Probably not.
Mike met with these other anti vax activists and started spreading disinformation to the citizens parents about the vaccine.
36:20
From 20/17/2018 that like time span the vaccine rates dropped in Samoa from 74 to 31%.
Just crazy.
Think of like three and three out of four people were vaccine to one out of three people were vaccine less than one out of three.
36:40
And in order to fight just specifically measles based off of how contagious it is, we need people at 95%, like 95% of our population.
So they're essentially screwed because they dropped so much.
A year later in October, there's a measles outbreak in Samoa.
36:57
Who would have thought?
Shocker.
Month later in November, RFK Junior double s down and he actually like uses his organization to like send a letter to the Prime Minister because he's concerned and he's like continuing to push his anti vax agenda on him.
37:14
It's like there's an outbreak but the vaccines are bad, the like.
Now is not the time to double down on the anti vax thing.
When there are children dying and as we see December 2019, a year, a year, a month after there's actually a vaccine mandate.
37:31
So thank goodness they didn't listen to him. 94% of the population becomes vaccinated.
But this point, 3% of Samoa was infected, 20% of the infants under age one got measles, and then one in 150 babies died. 80 less people died overall and 90% of these people that died were all under the age of 15 children.
37:58
Which children are usually the ones who get the most vaccines?
And if like, I do not want to hear one argument where they're like, they could have still gotten vaccinated or the vaccine would have killed more of them.
38:15
No, like, there's a reason this MMR vaccine was developed.
There's a reason there are not measles outbreaks happening in areas that are heavily vaccinated.
And again, like there are experts who make these vaccines.
38:34
Yes, like we said, there was a mishap that needs to be evaluated and all that.
But like, why does this lawyer guy, why are you going to trust him about the safety of vaccines over experts who study vaccines for a living?
I'm also like really sick and annoyed of the argument that just because someone like appears to be smart that they can somehow interpret research and anything scientific.
39:03
Like I've heard this argument from like I hear it from the doctor's standpoint all the time.
Not Doctor Sam, but people arguing about like doctors knowing everything about nutrition, right?
Much more relevant to us but just because someone appears educated.
39:18
And I will note, not lawyer.
All lawyers are also smart.
Like they're not.
There's bad eggs in every profession, as we've said a million times, even in others.
Does not make them suddenly an expert on everything.
It's just so frustrating because his little campaign did influence those people's deaths.
39:40
You can say they could they have free will and do whatever they want, but like fear mongering goes a very far away as we've seen with this recent election.
It's crazy like how Oh my God I'm running out of words 'cause I feel like I've said them all and.
39:56
We've said it so many times.
I'm tired of repeating them.
Exhausting.
There's only so many ways we can say the same thing over and over and over again.
Yes.
OK, we've kind of really already explained why we dislike this whole Maha movement.
40:13
To recap, my biggest thing I know Emily agrees too, is that they're just like bigger fish to fry.
Rather than worrying about seed oils Red 40, why don't we put our energy towards things that actually matter, like the social determinants of health, health literacy that would get us.
40:31
So.
Far literacy that would get us so far and that is going to help so much more in the long run than freaking out about specific, specific ingredients.
Like that is just the least of our concerns.
But again, like you just said, the fear mongering works.
40:47
And so if we're freaking out about seed oils, that becomes a top priority that we have to take care of.
And the American vote will go towards fixing that because that is very scary seeming.
I'm just.
I'm sweating.
Our next four years.
I'm gonna be rough.
41:04
I was looking back at our we have a excel sheet.
Emily and I do with like our past episodes, future episode ideas.
I was looking at like a season 1A dietitian's guide to summer safety, how to become a dietitian.
Like we were just so carefree, back to school nutrition.
41:24
We had no idea.
What our little future held for us in this podcast.
We have been also sharing Tik Toks back and forth, just like in preparation of what to say for this episode today, and I have one I want to quote.
They said quote.
41:40
Focusing on making America healthy again while ignoring food insecurity, food deserts, childhood hunger, and lack of access to safe spaces for exercise and sport is just another demonstration of privilege, I feel.
Like that just sums up all of this so well.
41:58
Yeah, it's that's pretty much it.
He's in a tizzy over like seed oils while some like, kids don't even know when their next meal is gonna be.
Like literally go outside touch.
42:15
Some damn grass.
Please and like talk to another human being that doesn't like look.
Like you.
That doesn't like in your same class like.
Talk to someone else please.
42:32
Please.
Also, I totally forgot to include it in the outline.
I really want to put the picture of all of them eating their McDonald's on the.
YouTube.
Maybe I'll put it in the thumbnail.
That's going to be a good thumbnail.
Picture.
Wait, yes, just put that in the thumbnail.
42:47
Yeah, so funny.
Just them, not us.
Not that was.
Crazy, that was crazy that.
Was actually were they paid for that?
Probably they they hope.
So, oh, they look so stupid, like I'm like, sell your If you're gonna like really sell out against everything you're saying, at least make money off of it.
43:14
It's literally.
The Wellness girlie saying that processed foods are bad for you but buy my supplement like it's that exact same thing but on a much larger scale.
Yeah, that will be affecting all of us much more, unfortunately.
Yes, I really want to drive home to something.
43:30
I've seen another dietitian saying a lot, and it just goes back to this whole thing.
I like having bigger fish to fry.
Most Americans are not meeting the dietary guidelines or physical activity guidelines, and sometimes it's no fault of their own.
You know, we all have insanely busy schedules, foods expensive, all those things.
43:49
But that's a bigger concern.
And that is how we make America healthy again is by encouraging people to eat their vegetables, finding ways for them to access more fresh fruits and vegetables, making cities more walkable so we can move more, more time in the day for more movement, more exercise.
44:06
I don't I do I have to elaborate more on that.
Like that should seem like the obvious answer.
Like we have these guidelines set in place but no one's meeting them because it's near impossible to with the lifestyles we have to live.
But sure, let's be concerned about seed oils in red 40.
44:22
I know, I literally don't even know.
I can't even elaborate more like if you don't get it, I guess you just don't get it.
Someone said online they're like, I can explain it to you but I can't make you understand and that's how.
That's this podcast episode today, yes.
44:39
So much.
But hopefully if at this point you got here, you probably want to listen to us because typically they like dip out after a little bit.
They're like, I listen to these girls be bullies for 10 minutes.
They leave a comment first then.
44:55
I laughed.
I'm sick.
But kind of excited for this.
We're like gaining traction on YouTube and we're finally getting the comments that come along with gaining traction.
We're also kind of rage baiting and I'm kind of, I think it's better when you like kind of go in for it versus when you don't want rage.
45:14
That's your point?
Like we're asking for it.
Like right now I'm like, yes.
Come to.
Bottom Tell me.
Tell me more about how you're choosing not to listen to scientists.
It's fine.
It's fine.
I also wanted to talk about how I think we talked about this.
45:33
Yes, I was going to say I was going to drive it home.
Definitely should say it again.
Like if we make it harder for farmers, jobs are already hard enough.
The climate is making it that way thanks to none of the politicians.
All these like deregulations on food is going to make food a lot more expensive because it's going to be a lot hard.
45:59
There's going to be less produced, so we left safe food to eat because they can do whatever they want to it.
If it these regulations are taken away and your eggs are probably going to be like $25, I'm not like it's going to be bad.
46:16
Like if you voted because you wanted cheaper groceries, that probably is actually going to happen.
That's not how inflation works and that's also not what any of them have said.
Like the things they have said have not backed up.
Groceries will be cheaper anyway.
46:36
Anyway, it's fine.
It's fine.
Our last couple points have to do with like, dietetics.
We've already really talked about how, oh, we had a whole episode about the claims about us being paid by Big Food.
We'll link it below.
46:53
We'll just reiterate that people are so distrustful of dietitians even though we are literally the only, only medical professionals with entire degrees on nutrition.
Your doctor does not have an educational nutrition, Your physical therapist, your personal trainer, your nurse, Oh my God, your nurse.
47:13
Nurses are amazing.
Doctors are amazing.
We couldn't live without them.
But they don't have degrees in nutrition.
They don't study nutrition.
So why are we turning to them for nutrition when we there's so many of us, there's so many of us, and we want to help?
I mean, I guess this is kind of on brand with people not listening to experts.
47:31
Oh yeah, it's like ties right in.
So it's just picking and choosing who you want to listen to.
Follow them Monday, the billionaires.
Which we don't have.
We don't.
Yeah, BT dubs we if we were paid by Big Foods, that's in our episode 136.
47:50
If we were paid by Big Food, we would make a lot more.
Yeah, also like the average dietation makes 55,000 with the requirement now of a master's degree.
Master's degree, unpaid Township.
48:07
You pay 10 grand plus to work for free for at least a year.
And then you come out making a a BIG55K hopefully.
And also your question on a daily basis about your qualifications.
48:24
By everyone.
Everybody.
Don't do it if you're an Rd. to be.
We have lots of RDS to be in this audience.
Can I say this turn down?
Professors that listen.
It's not too late, it's too late for us, but you can save yourself.
48:40
We're too deep in.
I know every presentation that I do, we do together.
We don't say that, but we do say like be prepared for constant questioning of your credentials.
I wanted to just say too, there's all those claims like when when we say that we don't support this movement, there's like, oh, it's 'cause you want to keep us sick so you can keep making money.
49:08
I want to drive home the point that dietitians and doctors too, and nurses and everyone else, we will always be needed.
Even if everybody had like the most perfect healthy big air quotes.
If you're listening to audio only lifestyle, like even if you ate quote UN quote perfectly, you can still get sick and have diseases.
49:29
These things exist that have nothing to do with food intake.
My example was a little dramatic, but I put in my example like if you because Emily and I started allowing GM OS in your diet and you also got a kidney stone.
49:48
No, I'm glad you gave this example like.
You didn't get the kidney stone because you listened to a dietitian's advice.
You got the kidney stone because you're dehydrated or ate with protein or whatever, or just because of other reasons that aren't even food related.
Like we're not saying that it's OK to eat GM OS because we want you to get sick and come back to us and give us more money.
50:08
We say it's OK to eat GM OS because the evidence says it's OK to eat GM OS.
They're actually very beneficial in a lot of ways for farmers and such.
And again, even if you avoided them, you could still get kidney stones, diabetes, and then subsequently an Rd. can help you treat those things as well.
50:26
Does that make sense?
Yeah, yeah, 'cause also like all this fear mongering food causes you to be stressed and stress is worse for your health than any of this except for alcohol, 'cause that's a Class 1 carcinogen and I'm sick of people and their advocacy around alcohol like I think it's I did.
50:53
You see my TikTok today that I posted about the guy with the cigarette.
Did you see that one?
I was so proud of you.
I was like, this is this is the energy we need to be bringing.
Like don't come, don't come at us for saying it's OK to eat GMOs when you are literally like smoking or carcinin like you're smoking cancer.
51:16
This guy literally was bashing seed oils in coffee Creamer, which you guys know I love a coffee Creamer but in his profile picture he's literally smoking a cigarette.
I'm like, this is really mean.
This is like the meanest I'd probably get, but you've heard me hate say this off air, but we'll put it on air because I've had strangers giggle at my jokes when I say these things.
51:41
So there's an audience right out there somewhere.
But I'm just like, you know, natural selection will come for you.
What?
Would you say this?
And I'm not going to be upset about it.
With our new merch, we're going to have critical thinkers and then Natural Selection will do its thing, will be our other line, yeah.
52:01
Like natural selection advocate, put that in my when someone googles me, put that in there.
Critical thinker.
Natural selection activist.
And followed by Swiss Miss on Instagram.
52:18
And followed by Swiss Miss on Instagram.
That's all I I would die happy if that's what I was known for.
That's a great resume.
But I'm like sick of being nice so.
I'm here for this.
Is just a warning if you want someone to be nice, we have handed up.
I'm turning though.
52:35
It's true, we're becoming more corrupted in our.
Leaning into my Enneagram 8 wing more and more every time.
I'm excited, but people are.
It's not like it's coming out of nowhere.
No, they've like watched us turn into monsters for the last couple.
52:56
I don't know if I say monster.
In their point of view, we're.
Still, how this is such, this is such a dark joke, but we are still allowed to be around children.
Like it's concerning where are like American politics is a joke.
53:15
And if we're not laughing, it's we're gonna cry and jump off a bridge.
Oh my gosh.
Anyway, we have some proposals as a new RFK junior interns who are running his social medias.
Gen.
53:31
Z Instagram interns.
And his were also his new graphic designers for that very ugly Barney inspired merch.
Yeah.
Of how we can actually make America healthy, quote UN quote again.
Put dietitians in charge and real nutrition professionals in these positions of power.
53:51
That'd be crazy.
I would simply fall over if a dietitian became like of power in some way like that.
That'd be insane.
And I don't want to hear any like you don't know anything about politics.
54:09
We have an environmental lawyer telling you not to drink or to drink raw milk like.
We also have vaccine because autism.
We can also look at along with the other nominees and clearly it's not about the unqualified.
So president-elect.
54:27
Yeah.
And his history so.
I I think I'd actually cry if a dietitian or like some nutrition professional is that.
'D be crazy.
Nominated.
That'd be so exciting, but I actually have someone who like, works with people and knows what's going on.
54:44
That's the other.
Thing we've really.
Already said this, but like we work with real life people every single day who like actually have problems and struggles.
Yeah, we don't just live in our little billionaire bubble and create problems and say things so that we can.
55:03
Like I wish, I wish that seed oils in red 40 were the biggest of concerns.
That'd be great.
Imagine a world.
Imagine a world where everyone had the safety to go outside and work out, or had access to a gym, or had a grocery store near them that was easily accessible and they could afford whatever they wanted.
55:26
They could like make the choice to choose the Red 40 free option because they had the budget and the literacy, the education to actually do so well.
Our other proposal is once these R DS are in power, they we recommend focusing on the social determinants of health rather than individual ingredients because again, bigger fish to fry.
55:52
Like I said, we recommend like we'll be there like consultants.
As the little baby interns, we're going to speak up and say, hey, just a few ideas.
Although if there's dietitians in charge, they probably are already thinking about that.
I don't know.
56:08
Well, I'm going to give them that.
There's bad eggs, as we've said.
But bad eggs, we'll, I'll take anything at this point.
Can it get worse?
It probably can.
I wouldn't be surprised at this point, but it'd be pretty tough to be worse.
Yes, let's finish this because I'm tired.
56:27
Me too, I'm very sweaty.
Also, I just realized that the deodorant I've been using is not an antiperspirant as well and that explains a lot about my recess sweating habits.
Anyway, it does not matter, you guys do not care, although that probably is.
56:44
The next thing that they'll try to ban is aluminum and deodorant.
Yeah.
Anyway, let's wrap this up.
Bottom line, yes, Maha is advocating for change.
Change is not always equivalent to improvements.
It it can get worse unfortunately.
57:02
It can.
And my next bottom line, final point is I'm sick of this again phrase.
I'm like, when were we healthy?
Was it when the average American died by 40?
57:18
Was it when we were cutting people open to rid their blood of disease?
Was it when we were literally like, eating, like not cooking animals?
Like when what?
Like when we were out there hunting?
We were hunting.
We were drinking.
Raw milk because we didn't know better, that pasteurizing didn't exist.
57:36
There's a reason the average American has lived longer.
There's a reason so many of these diseases are not as prevalent and we're not dying from them as quickly.
There's a reason for all this.
So when were we healthy?
That's what I want to know.
Like, So what are we going back to?
57:53
Like someone please give me a date.
Like I, I'm genuinely asking.
I want someone to tell me when we were healthy.
I mean, I'd even go as far to say like, when were we great?
Like I forgot.
58:08
That one I that one's also terrible.
Like Americans never been great.
It was great when they never make Americans here when there were no colonizers.
I was going to say, we started off on a pretty terrible foot and just got worse from there.
58:24
Yes, I'm just sick of it.
But we must persevere, unfortunately.
The horse persists, and so do we.
I can smell the comments.
I'm so excited and I know this is set on both sides where people are like, oh, they're so dumb for thinking this, but when there's literally science, like not believing in science, that's like there's there's certain criteria to a cult.
58:52
One of them is not believing in science or experts.
That's how you know you're really in it.
Yeah, you're in it and.
We're going to look at this 50 years from now and it's going to be embarrassing.
59:08
Maybe then we'll be taken out by the seed oils if we're lucky.
I'm gonna inject red 40 into my veins like.
Yeah.
I'm just so over it.
59:25
In the next 4 years, the horrors shall persist and we're not going anywhere, so it's not be sick.
Of us.
You're going to be sick of us.
We're already sick of it.
Unfortunately I feel like everyone listening to this is already under the same yes guys as us.
59:46
No one who we could be convincing, educating, they chewed out a long time ago.
They did, but we appreciate the people that are here because.
Spread the word.
Thanks for making us not want to drink raw milk.
1:00:06
Kinda just like hit and record and we just like don't even say goodbye.
We're just like.
We're like.
That's.
And happy Season 10.
Well, we'll see you guys.
Actually, it will be fun.
Next week we are gonna do a little bit of like naughty and nice again like we did last year.
1:00:22
Yes.
It'll be it'll be fun and festive but also really annoying again because we're reviewing influencers.
Yeah, but it's a little bit different.
It's not as heavy.
We'll try to bring some holiday cheer next week.
Yeah, thanks for listening, guys.
1:00:39
Remember, exclusive content on Substack, We can get more typically happier on the exclusive content, but we really appreciate you and we'll see you next week.
