Hello everyone, welcome back to another episode of the Up-Beet Dietitian's Podcast.
Hi guys, welcome back to the pod.
Happy holidays, We are celebrating.
Yeah, happy holidays.
We are celebrating over here with a three-part series of Naughty or Nice, very festive of us.
0:26
We did do this last year too.
So if you want to go listen to last year's episodes, episodes 1/21/21 and 1:22, We will include episode 120 below, which is where we reviewed influencers.
We did like a Naughty or nice of popular influencers of 2023, and we're doing that again today, reviewing 2024's popular nutrition influencers.
0:49
We've got a lot of tea to spill today.
It's going to be very.
Interesting, I was looking at our last year lineup, which will quickly fly through it.
Last year we went through liver king, Doctor Mike, Bobby Parrish awful, also known as Bobby Flave city, Alex Earl, carnivore MD, Papa Swollio, food science babe district of my Kylie and Emily Marico and like I thought those were pretty.
1:17
There's a lot of very polarizing figures up there, but this new round of influences we have coming up is like equally, if not more.
I'm gonna venture to say more.
And they all are very similar in their beliefs and all.
1:38
A lot of this ties into like making America healthy again and all of that too, which we'll probably.
I will do that today.
This is a spoiler.
I did throw one nice one in there.
I saw that and I'm glad you did because otherwise it has to be naughty.
Yeah, there are some good ones out there, but we're going to talk.
1:56
Unfortunately, there's potentially more problematic ones, and we're going to get right into it because I just know this first girl is going to take up too much of her time.
She's been around for a while, and you might know her as Food Babe.
2:14
She's been a long around for a very long time.
Like at least like as long I remember college like seeing her on Instagram.
Same.
And this is not to be confused with Food Science Babe, who we were reviewed last year and who we adore.
2:29
I don't know if you know this.
Did Food Science Babe name herself to like Combat Food Babe or is that just a coincidence?
I think it's a coincidence but it feels too close to me.
It's like pretty sure Food babe came before Food Science babe.
2:47
I know and Food Science Babe does like talk a lot about Food Babe's content and like talking about that would be.
So funny to make something out of spite of one.
An entire.
Platform just based on like we don't know food science babe's name.
3:03
I would not be surprised if she did this like as a like a vengeance to where I think she like, it was like a fun little side thing and she's like, I really can't stand this person.
I'm going to combat everything she says.
3:19
I mean, it really is the opposite kind of content.
So we're TikTok friends and I love that because content's the best.
If we ever have her on the podcast, we'll have to ask.
I am dying to know.
I've always wondered that.
3:35
So I got him confused at first before I knew who Food Science Babe was and like, we became TikTok friends.
I got them confused.
But then I realized very quickly that their content is very, very different.
Very different.
Let's get into it.
I didn't know as much.
3:51
So who is food babe?
I don't know.
I don't want to mispronounce her name.
Do you know how to say?
It I don't.
My guess was Bonnie Hari.
OK, that's what I was going for as well.
And she's a self crocane plate so Oh my God.
4:10
Oh boy.
We're starting off rough, so you know, I can't ever say words, so this is nothing this.
Is not actually.
She's a self-proclaimed food activist.
She's on a quote hot.
She's quote on Hot on the trail to investigate what's really in your food and I did not know she has a degree in computer science, which blows my mind.
4:30
Like girl, you can make so much money as a computer scientist.
What are you doing here?
She's very passionate about investigating what's really in our food and she gets a lot of pushback for this because she's not a nutrition professional in any capacity.
4:45
And so like one of the quotes I saw when she receives pushback like this is I never claimed to be a nutritionist.
I'm an investigator.
So she's really that's like around in that Gray area.
That's like if I came online and I started pretending to work for the FBI because I'm like, good at finding information on social media.
5:06
And like, I never said I was an FBI agent.
I'm an investigator.
Investigator.
This stay in your lane.
But anyway, let's talk about what else she she's, it's like Hannah said, a lot of these people, I feel like with you make America healthy again, a lot of these people kind of follow those beliefs.
5:24
You already know it's gumming.
She advocates for food as medicine the clean eating yes our food is dirty.
The only the only time I clean eating is if you wash your fruits and vegetables please but you should be doing but.
You should be doing, yes.
She only eats what she could pronounce, so she advocates for only eating what you could pronounce and avoiding food additives.
5:45
Which like makes me giggle because I can't pronounce words like normally, so can.
I just we just stumbled over food activists like.
Yeah.
Am I not allowed to eat half these foods?
I know, and then she's also a big organic fan.
6:02
Because it's best.
Classic.
Yeah, this is all just like we say this every single time we do a review.
It's the same thing literally every time.
It's just a pipeline.
Like you just can predict exactly what their history is and where they're going with it.
Yeah.
And Speaking of recent events, because why I feel like why a lot of this is coming up and populating more is she's a big advocate for RFK junior and make America healthy again, which we talked about last episode.
6:31
If you have not listened to it, go listen to it.
But it's following.
She's she is the girl boss.
I feel like I remember my first impression of her being the like eat this not that like you put or like she'll have her little yeah that she is a fear mongering girl boss when it.
6:54
Comes put a picture of one of her posts on the screen.
You've seen them for sure.
And that is probably, I feel like what she's known for at least 80% of her content is what she's known for.
And the recommendations are always more expensive.
It always has all these buzzwords in it that are most definitely not regulated.
7:14
And if how how our politics are going right now will probably be even less regulated.
So the words on labels won't really mean anything even more.
But she also, Hannah's note says, shares the throne with Bobby Flame City.
7:33
And I was like, are they friends?
I don't know if they actually know each other and make content together, but if she is the queen of fear monger ingredients, fear mongering ingredients, he is the king of fear mongering ingredients.
They both make content in grocery stores, holding up the good versus bad foods, telling you what ingredients to, you know, avoid.
7:53
They're cut from the same cloth.
Basically, if they don't know each other, they really should get together and have a cup of organic coffee because they would get along just fine.
She's also an author, as they all are.
I think almost everyone today has a supplement line and at least one book they've written, if not multiple.
8:12
I'm going to say.
We have our podcast is our pipeline now down to authors?
I think that's our next step.
Yep, that's our next step.
And then a supplement line that, but we've joked about that for a long time, having a supplement line.
So that's true only.
And I think not, I don't want to deter really far because we have a lot to talk about, but I would vote for something along the lines of Aulani's powder but caffeine free because we both have recently talked about how we want Aulani drinks because we're not not sponsored by the way.
8:45
But if they would like to send us anything to sponsor us, we won't be upset, but we'd like a caffeine version of it because we're both so caffeine sensitive.
Yeah.
So I feel like that right now is looking the route.
What would that be?
A fruity drink is?
9:00
Literally just a flavored water.
Flavored sparkling water is all it is.
How?
Exciting, but.
A lot of times like Aulani, again, I don't want to go too far into it because we have reviewed like Celsius and stuff, but they will add like a ton of like B vitamins and stuff, which I don't see us doing any of that.
No.
9:16
Ours wouldn't be a supplement at that point, I think it would just be a food product.
Yeah.
We it, we try to make it a supplement and we'd be like, no, we actually, yeah.
Don't really.
I mean, we still can make claims like metabolism boosting, that's true.
Fat.
Fat burning hormone regulating.
9:35
Exactly.
Exactly, but we won't go down.
Stay tuned for what?
We find.
Out after we write our book.
Anyway, Food Babe has a few books.
One of her more popular ones is called Feeding You Lies, How to Unravel the Food Industry's Playbook and Reclaim Your Health.
9:56
And then some cookbooks including The Food Babe Kitchen and Food Babe Family, which basically just makes you fear monger food around your kids.
Classic.
Good.
Yeah.
And then she also has a a couple of guides.
One of them that is noteworthy is the Sugar detox guide that is $125.00 for just a download you get sent.
10:19
What?
Yeah, I thought that was an actual detox.
I was like, oh, that checks out for the price.
I'm, let me, let me confirm what I just said, but I am pretty sure it's just like an ebook.
Yeah, it's oh, you.
You get some videos and a private support group, but otherwise it's just an ebook.
10:37
Interesting for a. $125.00 She does also have the juice cleanse guide, which is only $25.00, but it's just like, it's so predictable.
Yeah.
Like, don't eat any of these foods that the FDA says they're OK to eat.
10:53
And then also I'm gonna benefit by I will benefit from that financially by telling you what you can eat instead, which are always more expensive options.
By the way, you'll notice like in her eat this, not that the ones that she wants you to eat are always more expensive.
And she usually benefits in some way from promoting those.
11:09
She has like, of course, like shops online where you can like use her links to get stuff.
She gets Commission again.
It's Bobby Felicity all over again.
Yeah, Felicity Flaves.
See, I get into stuff now that we've mentioned that.
Oh my gosh.
Bobby Flave.
What is it?
Flave City.
11:25
Flave City.
Bobby Parish.
Yeah, I did not know this.
Next thing is she is going after Kellogg's have.
You not heard about this yet?
I I block a lot of people.
You have cultivated a good sensitive.
Feed if fruitless person.
11:42
One person says one thing I don't like, they're blocked.
So I I'm a very safe space for the most part.
OK, let me give you the lowdown.
So in case you missed it, Food Babe is at the forefront of this current Kellogg's petition.
11:58
We'll put a picture on the screen.
We have it in our notes here.
Again, it's a side by side of like a Kellogg's cereal, in this case, Froot Loops, showing the American version and then the Australian version.
It's either usually Australia or the UK that she compares.
And the American version, as you can probably presume, has more like artificial colors and things like that.
12:19
And she does not want those to be poisoning our children.
And so they're trying to get Kellogg's to change their ingredients and use more quote UN quote natural flavoring.
And if you go to her website, she boasts a lot about the different like fast food restaurants and brands that she has worked with.
12:41
I don't know if I should use the word worked with or more like bullied into changing their ingredients.
And she's very proud of like Chick-fil-A changing their ingredients because of her and things like that.
So this is just her next quest is getting.
Wow, it's like front page is Kellogg's.
12:57
Yeah, exactly.
Kellogg's like her huge thing right now and another influencer we'll discuss today towards the end will be another advocate of all this.
And they're kind of working in cahoots in terms of like the though, like the banned in America or excuse me, banned in Australia, banned in the UK.
13:14
We are going to record an episode on that.
So we won't go into a whole lot of detail on that today besides our usual like all things can fit doses the poison like those claims.
But we will dig deeper into that in a future episode.
I was watching a video actually from food science Babe about all of this.
13:30
And she made a claim that this is all just a front for Maha making America healthy again.
And she kind of said along the lines of like what we've said, as we discussed last week, Maha doesn't really care about making people healthier.
13:47
It just is all about deregulation, which food benefits from.
Like her entire business is based on shaming these regulated ingredients, including like red 40, yellow 5.
Those are all regulated by the FDA.
14:02
And so if Maha is able to get those things less regulated, she benefits.
And she's able to sell things with ingredients that she thinks are safe just because she thinks they're safe, not because the FDA said they are.
Just because she, with her computer science degree, decided they are.
14:19
Something I don't want to go into this a lot 'cause we talked about it last week, but something that's so, so frustrating to me, and this is going to be a common theme with all of these people.
Not all of them either. 11 nice one we threw in there is they're hating on all these ingredients, but when, if, when and if and when deregulation happens, companies can then just lie about when it's whether or not it's in it.
14:44
So you actually don't know if you're scary red 40s and your fruit loops.
They'll just lie about it and it's almost like they'd rather like one.
It's not about actually being healthy.
It's like this weird superiority complex where you're so privileged with the resources you have that you can you have the time and money to fixate on things like this rather than rather than just being thankful you have access to food.
15:13
Like consistent access to food.
But the whole like deregulation paired with the fear mongering of specific ingredients makes no logical sense to me.
Because regulating it will tell you if it's even there.
15:30
Deregulating it means it'll become the Wild West and companies can lie about their food labels and and they can throw whatever they want in there and take it out because they know it's a an ingredient that people are scared of.
And like if someone does have a sensitivity to something and it's not stated, that can be very dangerous, so.
15:53
Yeah.
And that's the thing too, Speaking of like coloring specifically, which I think I'll plan to go more into it when we talk about the banning in other countries discussion.
But that's a big thing too, is a lot of the natural food colorings are made from like food products.
16:10
Obviously, that's the whole point of them.
And you're much more likely to have an allergy to the natural food colorings than you are the artificial ones like Red 40.
Yeah, it was never about health.
It's never been about health.
No, and I love that you said too like the privilege here.
16:26
Like if you have time to worry about Red 40 and Froot Loops.
In this day and age, right just.
Don't buy it.
Like just don't buy it and go on with your privileged happy.
Life like it's.
16:43
Infuriating.
So yeah, we'll discuss this probably a lot more in a future episode.
I think in the next, I think after we do our are we calling this naughty or nice series?
We'll talk about that a little bit more.
But of course, aside from the whole Kellogg's thing, she does have her own supplement brand because who the hell doesn't?
17:04
It's called Truvani and I think it really is again, just giving Bobby Flave City.
It is very similar to his where she demonizes all the ingredients, just she can sell her own quote UN quote clean version.
17:21
I think her best seller is the protein powder.
Again, just like Bobby Flave City, she has like vitamins and minerals, things like that, but she also has like health and beauty and like things like that, including a clean toothpaste which of course is fluoride free.
Of course.
And I saw someone comment, I think it was on a future influence we're going to get to today, but similar subject, someone was talking about how fluoride is a beneficial thing for our dental health.
17:49
And the person making that comment was either a dentist or a hygienist.
And I think of course you're a hygienist saying those things.
You're paid by big fluoride or whatever.
Same thing as we talked about last week, like us being paid by big food to say that it's OK to eat Froot Loops.
Like why are we so anti people who are actually educated and like experts in the subject the topic like making the claims of if it's actually healthy or not It's wild to me.
18:18
It's or I don't want it.
This is a common theme of I don't want to get into.
It today, I know.
But it's this weird like hyper independence complex that has developed probably over the past 10 years related to someone we've seen in office where people like, it's like cool to like be conspiracy theorists and to like believe that like the system, like the system is against you.
18:47
I will know the system is definitely working against you in every way.
Like, and I know over the past couple episodes we have seen very pro FDA.
Hannah and I have been talking smack about the FDA for years.
Like we're not suddenly like supported by the FDA like there are there are reasons these governmental organizations are in place and there's a there are reasons for regulations.
19:15
And also the whole anti experts thing is very much just like it's giving Colt and it's it's not cute and it's not individualistic and you're not different or you're not original.
19:31
So like it's like, OK, I'll give one example.
Then we'll move on to our next next individual.
We're going to talk about.
It's like if you, this makes me so mad, especially with both of us being in healthcare, when people will like question doctors on like vaccines or like pharmacists on vaccines.
19:53
And then the next day they'll go to the emergency room for something.
And I'm like, well, you clearly don't trust them so.
Why are you going there?
Right?
Like this is obviously hypothetical, but there are people that are anti vax and still utilize our healthcare system.
20:10
So I'm like you clearly don't see them in as an expert so why should they give you your services?
Because we have a code of ethics that we must follow.
So all of us in healthcare for the most part are going to still provide medical care, but it's just like pick and choose and it's very frustrating.
20:29
Yeah, like I said last week, like even if everybody was doing their best to be quote UN quote healthy, like we'd still have stuff to do.
Like even if we all a super quote UN quote clean, organic, whatever, there would still be health conditions and things that we have to do.
20:50
And we'd want to help you improve your health in the ways that we could, even if it didn't involve like red 40 seed oils, whatever.
I don't know.
I'm just, I say this every single time we do a review.
I'm just so sick of saying the same thing over and over and over again.
21:08
And the, the frustrating thing is I love our listeners so much, but they already know all this.
It's I wish people who need to hear this would hear this and like sit with it for a hot 2nd and that.
Was only one part.
21:24
Leave a hate comment and then like ditch Like no, listen to a few episodes, hear us out a little bit, and if you still don't agree, cool, whatever.
We all have our own thoughts, opinions, beliefs, whatever.
Yeah but like just sit with it for two seconds and then leave a hate comment and leave after that if you want to.
21:43
Yeah, let's talk about our next guy.
Oh boy.
I think he's might be our longest enemy.
I was thinking about this and I'm like, who has been or what do they call it?
We'll call it like the dietitian's biggest op, they say, is Doctor Oz himself.
22:06
Like episode 2, we brought him up and bashed him and here we are, what, three years later?
Yes, unfortunately relevant again.
I haven't.
I will know the reason he's coming up because President-elect Donald Trump nominated him for the position of is it director in charge of the centers of Medicare and medicating?
22:28
Yeah.
I haven't heard any updates about what's happened with that.
But either.
I'm hoping he drops out.
I don't know when like Senate like decides all that or whatever.
I'm sure we'll find out as soon as something happens.
It'll be an, but he is unfortunately coming up because of that recent nomination.
22:50
I'm going to remind you it's about Medicare and Medicaid.
But let's look back into his past a little bit.
If you are not familiar with Doctor Oz, because he's been around a while and kind of has been a little irrelevant in my opinion.
And now it's becoming more relevant, unfortunately.
23:06
But he's a cardiologist and heart surgeon.
This does not qualify him as a nutrition expert, but that's primarily what he's known for is he hosted a show called the Doctor Oz Show where he would bring people on, they talk about their medical issues and he'd provide, I think they did a there were people that actually analyzed the amount of it, like the type of advice he gave.
23:33
And 90% of it was eat more vegetables and exercise more.
But he's known for giving out law nutrition advice, physical activity advice.
He's gone on Oprah many times.
I didn't know Food Bay was on the Doctor Oz show.
23:50
Yep.
Crossover.
Of course, they all know each other, but he has a million books, he's in hundreds of original publications, and he's just the thing I wanna note, besides the fact that he just like spews crazy nutrition and vibrates online, he's had his show for.
24:17
Hold on real quickly.
I'm looking up how long his show ran.
It went from 2009 to 2022.
And I would bite.
I would bet my life savings he was not practicing the doctor during that time.
24:33
He was just doing his as a cardiologist.
He was just doing his show and giving medical advice there and you don't deal with insurance when you're giving medical advice on of ATV show.
So we're talking about him in general, but specifically from a Medicare and Medicaid standpoint.
24:52
This is crazy to me.
You hardly just go with.
Insurance as like a practicing family care doctor, like you have staff for that like we talked about last week.
Yeah, we like this man does not know one thing maybe back in the day, like maybe the doctors are one of the last ones to know about insurance because like Hannah said, you have people to work with it, work with the patients and do it for you.
25:18
This man does not know anything about Medicare and Medicaid and also the people he's been working with are most likely not people that mutual lie on Medicare and Medicaid.
So I just, I felt a sudden ball of rage when I saw the nomination with him.
25:40
So I was like, it can't get worse.
It keeps happening.
Yeah, but he was one of the ones I'm like, how are you still here?
I thought that waking be that relevant for this long.
Like that's crazy.
25:58
Must be so exhausted.
That's the whole thing I keep saying too.
Like if I was Donald Trump RFK junior doctor Oz, just retire on your billions and hang out at the beach.
Like cut it out, you have.
So much money.
I would.
I would delete social media.
26:15
I'd close down.
Like I'd literally drop off the face of the earth.
Why?
Why would you not want to?
I'm sure they're so stressed out.
Like if you had this much money, which they all do.
Just stop.
I don't understand, maybe it's like egotistical and they need to feel important.
26:32
Yes, that's 100% what it is, 100% what it is.
Well, anyway, when it comes to nutrition, more specifically with Doctor Oz, as we've said, he's made a million ridiculous wild health claims Veripro supplement.
Obviously he's the global advisor and stakeholder for I Herb or I Herb, probably Herb, not Herb, which is an online retailer that sells health models products.
26:57
So basically it's like a, it's kind of like a Walmart online for like all these different brands and supplements basically.
So of course he's got his paws in that.
Gonna say the the supplement affiliations right there.
It's always there, like every example today besides our our good person.
27:14
His drastic claims, you've heard them.
Like he claims that green tea is a miracle cure for obesity.
Ridiculous cures for like when COVID was more heightened, he had thoughts on that.
Of course I mean cold remedies.
27:31
He's got a solution for everything and it usually is not evidence based.
Yeah, And what's crazy to me, I'm going to link this right here.
The American Medical Association literally deems Dr. Oz, quote, dangerous and quote, unfit to be an American doctor.
27:50
That's insane for like, like, that'd be like the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics going out of their way to call out like us.
Yeah.
Like you had to to.
The field.
Like the and the fact they're calling out one person, but I mean, they probably called out others.
28:09
I see.
But the fact that you are this unreputable, that the medical association's like you should not be a doctor.
But it like fuels them, like they double down when they get pushed back like this.
28:25
It's crazy.
And then they get nominated for governmental positions.
Exactly.
It's like the worse, like the the more nonsense you spew, the more people are just like encouraging it.
It's mind boggling to me.
28:42
Yeah.
We'll probably talk about him again within the next 4 years.
Unfortunately, he's like come back from the dead.
I don't think, no, I'm not going to say that it's morbid.
Anyway, moving on.
Our next one will be quick because RFK Junior, he's been coming up a little bit more.
29:06
Unfortunately, once again he was nominated for Director of Center of Health and Human Sciences.
Yes, Health and Human Services, Yeah.
Health and Human Services.
I was thinking of the College of Health and Human Sciences.
Yeah, where we got our degree.
29:23
Go listen to the last episode where we talk all about make America healthy again.
We're going to just jump into him a little bit.
The like sparks note version is he is known online as being an environmental lawyer, a conspiracy theorist and an anti vaxxer.
29:39
Literally, if you Google him, that's what I'll tell you.
That's kind of all you need to know.
He makes like once again kind of similar realm is these other two where a lot of fear mongering and he's super pro deregulation.
29:58
He also thinks we're suppressing this side I.
Was just going to say the sunshine thing.
We talked about it last week with that tweet where he said the FDA is suppressing our sunshine, making us sick.
Yeah, crazy.
So we're not going to talk too much about him, but him and Doctor Oz are on the same.
30:16
They're on the naughty list.
They're on the naughty.
Oh yeah, we haven't seen said.
Well, obviously these three have been naughty.
You pick it up on the vibes, probably it is all the way down.
We've checked our list twice and everyone is naughty so far.
Yes.
Our next one, though, is our nice one.
30:35
And consider us biased, but we love her.
Her name's Ilona Mayer.
I think that's how you say your last name and if you're anywhere in TikTok you've 100% seen her.
She is once.
I'm not even going to say no for TikTok.
30:51
She is an Olympian.
That's a.
Respect on her name Won a bronze medal in women's rugby.
Nusmosant recent What were the Olympics?
Is it Paris?
Oh, where?
31:06
Yeah, Paris.
OK.
I was like, where were they most recent Olympics in Paris?
And she isn't a body acceptance queen.
She like first kind of blew up when the whole trend of like women over 200 lbs showing what their body size look like.
31:24
This happened a couple years ago.
And just like normalizing that, like you don't know how much someone weighs based on how they look.
She also was like, I am an Olympic athlete.
I am.
I does not matter.
She's like, I am obese based on BMI.
31:41
Yeah, but I'm an Olympic.
Medalist an Olympic like an Olympian and winning medals.
Yeah.
And she's also very well known for like her TikTok, she's super funny recently on Dancing with the Stars and she's been putting in a ton of work of like advocating for women's sports and just a lot around, I don't know if I want to say body positivity because I know like there's like.
32:06
Yeah.
Some controversy in that space, but we're going to say like body neutrality and feeling yourself, her fitness, and she is unapologetically her authentic self and we love her.
32:24
Nice.
Nice.
She gets not an audience, she gets our check of approval.
No lump of coal for a lot of this year.
No, a lump a call.
Let's talk about this next one, though.
I have some kind of strong thoughts.
We have not discussed this together, I don't think.
32:41
We haven't.
No, we haven't.
So you guys are getting our first thoughts.
I was just showing her to Ross like 2 days ago and he immediately was like get this out of my face.
He's not the target.
32:57
He.
Is not.
So our next influencer is Nora Smith.
If you know her at all, she's known as like, literally making everything from scratch.
And this is from like food to.
Toothpaste.
33:13
Hair gel, deodorant, everything.
And there has been some recent controversy.
I'm gonna start with her pros though, 'cause I think she out of everyone on here, I think she might be a 5050.
And this might be controversial, I feel, but I'm saying 5050 from the standpoint of a dietitian, yeah.
33:33
Because.
She low key kind of promotes food freedom.
Oh yeah, she's always she.
Eats all the things, just always homemade.
She eats all the things she it's confirmed they have a nanny, they have like 3 kids and she's 22 years old which is crazy.
33:48
She's 2222.
You could tell me she was 45 and I wouldn't believe.
You.
Yeah, something for the reason for that.
They are both Mormon, which might explain some things.
Yes.
34:04
But she's 22, they have three kids, and she's always like cooking.
Like her meals have to take hours to make, and also her kitchen's always clean.
That's what I noticed.
I'm like, how is your?
Apparently, she says her husband Lucky always cleans.
But I'm like, it's too clean for all dishes.
34:22
You're.
Landing.
They're and it's confirmed they have a nanny to help out.
They definitely have like house cleaner, like house make cleaning staff.
They have people helping out, but she never talks about restricting food.
34:37
She's like always enjoying her dessert and like really emphasizes like enjoying food, which I feel like no one, not as many people talk about as much, especially when it comes to food which.
We shouldn't be talking about that, that's for sure.
No, no, no, no.
34:53
So that is actually really beneficial.
And it also unfortunately helps that she is thin and a model, so people will see her and be like, oh, it's OK if I eat ice cream every night because Nora Smith doesn't.
35:12
She's a model.
She's also like 5-10.
I could tell she's tall just by her.
Videos I think they're almost the same height maybe we don't know.
He's definitely much taller.
I'm thinking same height because she wears really high heels.
But fun fact about her, she's actually German.
35:30
Oh, and I think she's 100% black.
So I was like really excited about the representation there.
But then there's been some recent controversy that's come up which like, I don't know, it's one of those things that it's like, what's the, the I'm not the acronym, the analogy where it's like, if it like looks like this talks like this.
35:52
Looks like a duck.
Walks like a duck, yeah.
Where people are like, it's come out that her husband is like super conservative and voted for Trump and they're like, well, what would you expect from a white Mormon man?
36:09
True.
So and she like very much kind of leads into like the leans into the trad wife side of TikTok, her and ballerina farms.
I don't know if they're actually friends.
We've we've never talked about ballerina farms.
That's another thing.
What is that?
I don't even know what that.
36:25
Is you don't know who ballerina farms.
I should have put her on the list.
Oh my goodness, I'll do it.
Like I'll give you the the SparkNotes version of her, but you should look into it.
Did you see people ever talking about the controversy around the husband who bought his wife an apron when she wanted a trip to Greece?
36:46
Oof, no.
Yes, so that was a recent thing for her birthday she wanted a trip to Greece but he bought her an apron instead.
Very gross vibes.
Something to give her background because she her story is very polarizing and it's very it's very I feel like you've definitely seen her.
37:08
Maybe I don't see her quite as much, but she's in the similar like trad wife TikTok.
They make all their milk from scratch.
They live on a farm, ballerina farms.
They have like five children.
They're also Mormon.
37:26
Her sad story, which like I have probably I'm in the minority with this opinion, is she actually like went to Juilliard for ballet and her husband like low key, low key, high key, unofficially kind of stalked her and like.
37:48
Before they were together, I'm guessing.
Before they were together and like coerced her into dating him and somehow, I don't know the specifics convinced her to like drop out.
And then they got like married and now and people see her.
38:03
There's there's two signs of it.
And I can see both where like they see her as like him taking away her freedom, which like he was very creepy and like would not leave her alone.
And she went to Juilliard for ballet.
38:19
Like very sad.
And now like he won't even take her to Greece because he's like super rich.
I don't know what he does, but he's super rich and but he'll give him her an apron for her birthday.
They posted that TikTok.
You should go watch that.
I bet.
I bet it's still up.
But there's that side of it where you feel bad for her.
38:36
But then also there's this side where they're like, she's trapped with all these children and I'm like, it's kind of a Mormon belief to not believe in birth control.
And at some point it's on her as well, 'cause you like, you stay in that relationship.
38:56
And, and I know like, before anyone comes at me and they're like, Emily, you can be abused in relationships and like, you can get like assaulted in relationships.
And I'm like, yes, you absolutely can.
Yeah, you can't always like but.
No, but on TikTok, when you're feeding into this trad wife narrative with like, all your children exploiting your children for content, that's something I do know between the two of them.
39:26
Nora Smith typically hides her children's face.
Without say, I don't ever see her kids.
Ballerina farms does not so it's like one thing where I'm like I can't feel bad for you when one your if your religion is anti birth control, no one's forcing you to stay in that.
39:46
And that's a lot easier said than done.
There's a lot of ex Mormons who talked about how getting out of it was like a very hard process but.
Yeah.
I like can't really have empathy because I think a lot of it is like a lot of the empathy toward her is like white women who are like, Oh my God.
40:05
It's like the whole like victim mentality of wanting to feel pressed, which like as a woman you are, but then there's like there's intersectionality within it.
So sorry to go on that.
Side note though, I didn't know you didn't know Valerina Farms.
I just got on her Instagram.
She has 10 million Instagram followers.
40:22
How have I not heard of her?
I only heard of her because of the apron incident and then also her and Nara Smith and the families met up at one point but I think they only met up because they're both like trad wife influencers.
And like I have so many mutuals who follow her.
40:41
Really.
Wait, now I want to know who follows her.
A few dietitians that you'll know.
Interesting, but yeah.
Yeah, we have not talked at all about like the trap wife.
It's.
Any other stuff at all yet?
40:57
I think it is like the analogy of what you said.
Like looks like a duck, walks like a duck talks like like.
What do you expect?
America really has been kind of split in two.
Yeah.
And you could usually tell pretty quickly, like where someone stands.
41:14
Wow, yeah, these are some interesting people that follow her.
I know.
These are.
It's very interesting.
I know, very telling.
Yeah, she's 8 kids.
Oh, how old is she?
Do you know?
Oh.
I don't know how old she is, let me look up.
41:30
I mean she looks really young.
Also I was reminded 34.
OK, it's a little better than like early 20s with a bunch of kids, but still 34 with the kids. 22 with three kids.
Gosh.
It's just, I don't know, it gets to a point where I'm like, that's a a very terrible situation that you're in.
41:50
And like, yeah, at the end of the day, the man is a problem, as it typically is.
But when you like, like, what do we do with that situation then?
Yeah.
And maybe people say she's making the best of it, but I draw the line at exploiting children.
42:07
Couldn't be us.
The only child we'll exploit is Finn.
Finn Hiloki likes it.
He loves the attention.
Although I'm sure they say the same thing about their children too.
Yeah.
Anyway, OK, our next 1 is really quick too because we also recorded a whole episode on her we.
42:27
Can lump in her and.
Yeah, King Krabby Patty, Lip Schmidt and King Krabby Patty.
I think her name was Annika.
I forgot her name also.
Link them both below, but we did also do full reviews on them.
They do.
They once again are cut from the same cloth as each other very much like they're both very much thinspo.
42:49
Yes.
That was like a theme on our podcast for a few weeks.
It felt like like we talked all about thinspo.
Dark times.
Did you see that Lib?
I think I sent it to you.
She has a new backup account.
She's been posting on it to me SO since.
Our video, our main video of Les Schmidt, which went kind of viral for for us on YouTube.
43:09
It's like one of our top views right now.
That was right before she got banned on Tiktok, which praise the higher above whoever they are.
But of course she has bounced right back and made the backup account.
43:24
And she is pushing the thinspobe more than ever on this new account.
She is again doubling down.
Exactly.
I was going to say when Tiktok blocks some people kind of unfairly, but like when all these people have been calling you out.
43:43
Just another example of like the harder people push against them and like tell them how harmful they're being, the more they double down and like really just go all out with their content.
Yeah.
Which hey, I guess I did the same thing with like the nutrition stuff.
43:58
Like I get all these hate comments about the seed oils and things like that and I just like keep making seed oil content.
So I guess I can't judge but.
Yeah.
It's a wild phenomenon.
I would love to know the psychology behind that.
Yes for sure.
44:14
Sorry I I fell into a deep dive.
I I'm going away.
I didn't know Ballerina Farms.
Their website has a lot of things they're selling.
I was just looking at that too.
I will be stalking them later after we get off the.
Podcast and I'll probably send you stuff.
All right.
Next one will be quick too.
44:31
Tell us about her.
I don't know a whole lot besides like one video that I saw.
I, I feel like I know maybe like this much more than you about her name was Doctor Natalia on TikTok recently she took out the doctor.
44:48
I think it was just one of those things where like people put credentials on their name as like a like a joke like a satirical piece.
But she she does mostly like comedy and skits, but then she'll also delve into like random Wellness things of like what she eats in a day and stuff like that.
45:10
She's not quite as like abrasive, I would say as Liv Schmidt and King Krabby Patty.
But recently people have been the the biggest thing I saw her for was she made a video that I I think I sent it to you the where she like does a skip making fun of intuitive eaters.
45:31
I think I stitched it way back when, but I can't remember.
Probably, yeah.
But I was glad to see like I would say 5050 of the comments, like people were actually like, well, intuitive, like intuitive eating actually really does help me.
And I'd rather have and a lot of people, even if they weren't like super pro intuitive eating, they were like, I'd rather have people talking like this than just like demonizing food and talking about how much they hate their body.
45:57
Like it's a breath of fresh air compared to that.
So like that video definitely rubbed me the wrong way.
Like I'm all for making fun of everyone.
Like we make fun of dietitians and.
And ourselves, I just did.
And ourselves, Like I know I'm annoyed with my seed oil stuff.
46:12
Like, you tell me the seed oils are bad, I'll make a video telling you why they're not, and I'll just keep it going forever.
Yeah, exactly, Self.
Aware.
Self aware, but it just rubbed me the wrong way And recently after the election, it's come out that she has tumbled down or was hiding it before and was this is just really sparked her coming of the altar right side.
46:40
And people have been talking about like the the pipeline of like Wellness girly to alt right is very apparent.
And a lot of them also like are that way before like you can kind of you can tell just looking at them and the way they talk and the things they say.
47:03
But recently she's been very much under fire.
There's a lot of people that like used to follow her because one, she's like a conventionally attractive blonde white girl.
So that's helping her out a lot.
But she like had she did a lot of comedy and now like it's really doubling down on I don't, I don't know specifically what she's feeling, but I know it's been rubbing a lot of people the wrong way.
47:32
And she's very pro Trump so.
Yeah, I was talking here today and like the last few weeks, her post seemed to be a lot about making America healthy again.
Thank God Trump is in office or going to be in office, that kind of stuff.
47:52
So not much there, but I just want to talk about like the Wellness girly alt right.
There's a Venn diagram.
It's almost a circle.
Well.
That's this next one too.
She's in that circle as well.
This next one I want to hear from.
I did not know this person existed.
I'm so excited.
48:08
And then I looked into her.
I was like, she might be our biggest fan.
OK, this next one, first of all, I Loki love her username.
It's healthily her name.
I'm guessing she goes by Italy, but it's like Illyriana.
I think it's how you pronounce it.
So her name's pretty cool.
I am jealous of that.
48:24
She has a very cool name with our basic names.
I know she could do so much with that just in terms of like URLs and SEO and such.
Very jealous.
Anyway, she is the dietetics industry field.
Whatever you want to call us.
48:40
Biggest hater.
Or biggest fan?
One of the two maybe she hates 'cause she wants to be us.
That kind of thing.
But she is a holistic health coach.
More notably or more legitimately, I guess I'll say she is an NASM certified personal trainer, which is a legit personal training certification.
49:02
The holistic health coach can't say that is legit, no.
But as we've discussed before many times, even just being a personal trainer does not qualify you to talk about nutrition.
But she very much does.
She has a bachelor's degree in communication and media studies, which is I saw that on her LinkedIn because I was stalking that.
49:21
I was channeling my inner Emily today on LinkedIn.
There we go.
And she like I was kind of getting at earlier, she is the one that I was mentioning that is also in like the banning Kellogg's thing, the Kellogg's boycott her and Food Babe are.
49:38
Teaming up.
In cahoots like I was saying and she's the one that I was also mentioning earlier that claims that US science based evidence based people like a cult, even though it's kind of like.
Crazy it's they are the cult.
49:54
They're the cult.
Yeah.
Like how can you just dismiss science like that?
That's it makes.
How can you look back on, like, the past, like let's just say even 100 years of history and be like, yeah, maybe science is all wrong?
50:14
Maybe people are, maybe science is all just made-up and paid for.
And once again, it we're not saying it never is.
There's plenty of scientific evidence out there that sucks.
Yeah, like they're it's all capitalism in some way or another, but like that's much better than just like saying random shit you pulled out of your ass.
50:39
Like what I'm gonna get to next talking about birth control and liver detox is like she she hates dietitians, especially anti diet dietitians.
We are her arch nemesis.
She's very upset that all foods fit.
50:55
Funnily enough, she does have a a food freedom Instagram highlight on.
What's on there?
Basically she's trying to prove that she has a food freedom experience, Food freedom journey, by not eating foods that don't make her feel good, AKA cutting things out, being restrictive.
51:15
She wants to be us.
I think that's it.
I think you're right.
Think she wants to be us so badly?
I also found a highlight on birth control pills which was very funny.
This is classic.
She's not the only one to have this on their page.
51:32
A lot of these Wellness girlies have thoughts on birth control pills, saying that they're the worst thing ever.
Don't ever take them.
First of all, they are not doctors, medical professionals.
She is a personal trainer and health coach, which she does claim in her little story.
51:48
She's the guy.
I'm not a doctor.
This is not advice, but like, she's giving advice.
Yeah.
It's like as a dietician, if I were to say something about a medication, like you should not take metformin.
But it's not medical advice though.
52:04
Like I'm still telling you if you should or something take a medication anyway she as an alternative to taking birth control recommends like tracking your cycle which again cool if that works for you go for it.
But she mentions in that story highlight if you want to get a better handle on what your cycle is, do a liver detox and here's how and make sure you also heal your gut.
52:31
Also you can heal your hormones so you can track your cycle and get off birth control pills does.
She have a supplement line.
Let me get to that.
She does.
This sounds like something she can monetize.
Like this is just so predictable.
52:48
Live healthily is her supplement line.
She is such a.
She just really why do we get the boring?
Names I know it's not fair honestly.
And this website, they're like tagline is your one stop shop for all things clean and low tox.
53:06
Of course, OK, low Tox is kind of cute, but they might they might be limited on character counts too, so.
I do like low tox.
I wish we could use that somehow.
Can we use I?
I might just start using that.
It's not trademarked.
Maybe we'll use it as like low tox in terms of like not being diet culturate, like we're not toxic influencers, we're your low tox diet nutrition influencers.
53:34
This is like if we think Food Science Babe went after Food Babe, we're like, we're just adding a word.
So she has her own supplements, a few different things, not a whole lot.
It mostly is her selling other brands including Truvani Food Babe's brand, another crossover.
53:55
Oh my gosh.
So on this website.
They all know each other.
They all know each other.
They're all working in cahoots.
She is selling Truvani.
I didn't dig a whole lot deeper, but I do wonder if she sells any of these other people's supplements as well.
Probably.
But this is like we say a million times.
Like they are so quick to demonize all of these regulated food products, but then sell supplements that are in no way regulated.
54:20
It's it's absolutely wild.
I can't even like grasp.
It Yeah I will know one thing I wanted to say just cause of how ridiculous it is that she when I was scrolling through her post recent posts she's like very anti ulcer processed foods like that is the bane of her existence.
54:43
Any type of processed food like literally is out to get her except.
For supplements though.
Except for supplements, those are OK.
But she made a post that was literally like anti diet.
She didn't say nutrition experts, but it was definitely alluding to it where she's like anti diet experts will say there are no studies that there are any negative effects of drinking alcohol.
55:08
And I'm like we talked about this last week like you are choosing to be dumb.
I the filter is off.
We're not going to be nice anymore.
Like you are choosing to be dumb there.
There are millions of studies.
55:25
I don't know millions.
I don't know the amount it's.
Probably not millions, but a.
Lot there are probably thousands of research studies indicating we also hate on alcohol all the time over a year and we are pro processed foods.
There's a bunch of us like I, I can think of like 5R DS that I follow that I enjoy who talk about how alcohol is a Class 1 carcinogen.
55:46
Like we're not that.
What's the word obtuse where we're saying only eat red 40, only drink tequila?
Ever have put red 40 in your tequila?
Yeah, if you're not drinking colored booze you are not doing anti diet correctly.
56:04
Yeah, you are too restrictive.
You have an eating disorder if you're not drinking red tequila.
But that's literally like not even an exaggeration.
I know what they are saying about us and I'm like where one where is the nuance too?
56:20
Like you're blatantly ignoring but they don't believe experts.
Like we're never gonna convince some like.
So she's not listening to this podcast.
No, she'll probably tag us and be like these dietitians want you to drink red alcohol.
56:37
OK, I was trying to recall who it was that she was like beefing with recently, but I had like seen her comments.
I Cara no although maybe, but I should say.
Cara like gets in quite a few fights.
She's very brave.
Cara's very brave.
She's our MSG queen.
I don't think I mentioned her on the actual episode, but I was telling her or telling you about her doctor, Jessica Nurik.
57:00
She's a dietitian with PhD.
She's a lot of like pregnancy, breastfeeding, but also lately a lot of like Maha stuff.
It was her.
It was Jessica Nurik and Health Healthfully.
They were kind of going at it in each other's comments.
Lately, I love that for her.
57:17
Well, for Doctor Jessica.
Cause of course we didn't say this, but obviously I'm sure by now it's obvious healthily is pro Maha, Trump, RFK, all of that.
We didn't say that, but obviously that's upper rally.
Yeah, it's just unfortunately predictable.
57:37
Like the fact that what, three or four of these influencers again, like in cahoots saying the same things and all have the same problems from our perspective as dietitians.
Again, not original like you said.
Like you're not different by hating red 40.
57:55
It doesn't make you cool to hate red 40.
It doesn't make you like smarter than the experts say and.
Like they think that we're the ones who are vapid and dumb and don't know anything by saying that it's probably OK to have some red 40 once in a while.
58:14
Yeah, it's crazy.
It's shocking.
All in all, though, we're going to be talking about nutrition a lot more in these next four years because all these people have been coming out of those works.
Like if Darthur Oz can make a comeback, who knows?
58:30
Who else is like that?
Barry we forgot about.
That's just going to like pop out and.
It's going to be terrible, but we're going to keep talking about it.
There's still, there's always going to be people with these platforms because strong polarizing views gain traction anti government, especially with how like I have so many issues with our bipartisan system, but especially in America where you come more and more divided every single day.
59:03
So this is just like not gonna go away.
And we'll probably have many influencer reviews in the future.
Yeah, unfortunately, even though, oh, I'm, I'm doing my.
Same thing.
It's the.
Same damn thing every single time.
59:20
And like I already said today too, people who listen to this are not the ones who need to hear it, unfortunately.
We love you guys so much.
Thank you for supporting us.
Share it with your friends and your family who do need to hear this because they have been duped by Healthily, Food Babe, Doctor Oz, etcetera etcetera.
59:48
And now that we're at the end, I know you've, you're so brave.
You've made it through this entire episode, Brave.
About all of our bags.
Yeah, we are going to link all the episodes we referenced during today's episode in the bio, so you can go listen to some of those a little bit more in depth if you want to talk about this or if you're looking for something happier.
