Hello everybody welcome back to a brand new episode of the podcast hello everyone today we are talking
0:41
about a very exciting topic and if you know about our topic you probably found
0:46
us or if you know a rough star baby still a rough rough
0:52
start if you know about our podcast you definitely know what we're about to talk about and we're talking about social
0:59
media today and we're talking about kind of more of the side of it is if you don't have
1:08
a great relationship with social media if you don't feel good while scrolling
1:13
through social media if it just gives you bad vibes in general we're gonna talk about that in our official name if
1:21
you've probably seen the title is how to detox your social media but we're gonna
1:27
kind of go a couple different ways about it just talking about why it's good to detox your social media
1:33
this might be the only detox we will endorse I can't really think of any
1:40
unless it was like a friendship detox like I'm not like uh what are you saying
1:46
are you gonna detox me yes I'm cutting off everyone no I
1:51
I don't think I'd have any friends if I didn't talk that's not true but
1:58
when you talk every day that's true that's true we did a detox episode a few
2:04
maybe a few months back we'll have to link it we'll link it below um but we spoiler alert and that one
2:11
talked about how you don't need to do any kind of detox but actually you do
2:16
you need to do a social media detox and this is how to do it yes we're excited
2:21
so let's get into it overall
2:27
let's let's pour one out that's a phrase I
2:33
never said that before I've never heard those words come out of your mouth I don't think they'll ever come out
2:39
again let's let's pour one out to those broad detoxes the lemon juices the
2:46
Cayenne mixtures because they're just they are wannabes and they want to be
2:53
our liver kidney and lungs I don't know what's got in here today
2:59
I'm once again whenever we record I don't have brain power I know it's like at the
3:07
end of the day whenever we record I wish we could record at like imagine recording at like 8 A.M we would be
3:12
thriving we would be this would be a different product it'd be a much different podcast yeah it
3:18
would be the more upbeat diet right now we're like the beat dietitians
3:24
we really own our upbeat side are you saying that we're frauds
3:31
is this her Scandal last time we talked about what our Scandal would be Oreo Scandal what was your Scandal again your
3:38
avocado toast the truth is we're not that upbeat we're
3:44
tired and brain dead but okay I don't know what's going to be anyway let's talk about how the real detox that
3:52
deserves attention is social media detox and that you can't sell which probably
3:58
is why it's not that popular you know what maybe we should sell that we could totally make an ebook or
4:04
something like a step by step even though we're giving it to you for free right now on
4:10
this podcast maybe they didn't find the Pod yet you know we'll give them the opportunity to find the podcast but if
4:15
they don't want to listen to us then they can pay for something okay good idea but yeah it is gonna be a very good
4:21
thing to do whether you're doing it from learning through this free podcast or through our ebook we're gonna make
4:27
apparently it's very important to do this because like and then I always talk about on here I think we talk about it
4:32
because we just want to complain because it's exhausting being on social media there's a lot of cons to it a lot of
4:39
Pros you get to like connect with others make virtual friends see what your family is doing from across the country
4:45
or whatever um but unfortunately I think that's how it was intended to be used but it's
4:51
become a lot more than that in a lot of ways um and it can be very detrimental to
4:58
mental health and so that is the reason why we're talking about this today
5:04
and we're all about mental health and you guys know so let's jump into the cons of social
5:12
media because I think Hannah already covered the pros like you can connect with others you can connect with people
5:18
across the world which is crazy like we have some friends like dietitian friends
5:23
in Germany which is absolutely wild um you find people with similar interests or just learn about new
5:31
people's like hobbies and what they're passionate about through it but real
5:36
icons and we're gonna chat about them so first one being if not one of the biggest ones is social
5:43
media can increase into individuals risk of disordered eating depression and
5:48
anxiety they have done studies on this recent generation on their
5:55
mental health and one of the biggest contributors to mental disorders is the
6:02
internet which makes me sad when like older Generations are like the internet's ruining them like
6:10
maybe in some way you're wrong but as well it's helped us develop opinions
6:17
that aren't our parents because they are the main people we talk to um but it's kind it's a space where like
6:23
bullying is always happening and you can never leave it and that's what that was one of the biggest factors that
6:29
increased that like mental disorder risk and just the internet's not regulated
6:35
social media is not really regular like you can say whatever you want Pinterest released the like no more weight loss
6:42
things even though I still see weight loss I was just gonna say and like we can post we Emily and I both post on
6:48
Pinterest like our tick tocks we just throw up there and if you're not a Creator you probably wouldn't know this but you can like add tags to like get
6:55
your post seen and we can add weight loss tags so many of them available yeah on Tick Tock in their Community
7:03
guidelines you're not allowed to promote anything with eating disorders but there is a lot of okay there's a lot of
7:10
zordian tick tock um it's like so who's even regulating that like that's the hard part yes and
7:16
there's so much that it's not something a robot can easily decipher like there's
7:22
very tricky ways people can word things that would not get flagged
7:29
exactly so it's not regulated
7:36
and also it's it never goes away it's just constantly going which also just thinking about that is anxiety inducing
7:43
like there's never a slow moment really in
7:49
social media some every week it's something new it literally it literally is like there are
7:55
RDS like us who their whole platform is just like stitching and duetting all the
8:01
stupid disordered eating content out there like they can make an entire platform based off of Just
8:06
uh what's the word like combating all the negative content out there and
8:12
they will always be able to do that because there's always going to be new content coming out that promotes disordered eating habits yeah
8:20
which leads kind of into our next Point here our next con social media which is
8:26
that we are constantly being exposed kind of along with disordered eating to this like idea that of course then
8:33
bodies are good and big bodies are bad this is like another just constant
8:38
constant thing I'm talking about it all the time on my page recently it's just everywhere yeah especially in the social
8:44
media world or like the influencer world yeah it's pushed hashtag a lot of goals
8:52
yeah and then like the creators that find success a little
8:59
bit easier are always have thinner bodies or in thinner bodies
9:05
or they're posting like a weight loss um what's it called
9:10
my gosh this is such an obvious word before and after oh yeah post before and
9:16
they were of course bigger and then they lost weight and those posts always go viral but everyone's like oh my gosh I'm
9:21
so proud of you you did so good you're so much prettier now you know the
9:26
whole stick I think the only before and after weight
9:33
loss ones I like are where both it's like I always see it with girls because I
9:39
don't know I I said I don't really tend to like see men on
9:45
my feet I don't either I'm like this is not for you yeah you're
9:53
um but I always see it where like girls will talk about like she deserved to be loved and then they show their like
9:59
before body those are the only ones I do like because like yes
10:05
she deserved the same exact amount of love and compliments and whatever you're
10:10
receiving now yeah and unfortunately those people had experienced that difference they're like wow
10:18
people like me a lot more now that I'm thin exactly and that's where I want to say like
10:23
before some troll is like you're so anti-weight loss we're not anti-weight loss we're just anti what comes along
10:30
with that the other side of it when you have not lost the weight yet
10:36
um yeah all of that weight loss is not inherently a bad thing but it's also not
10:42
inherently a good thing either no which that's not what people want to
10:48
hear because we're not just pushing people to make themselves as Tiny as possible and
10:55
shaming people yeah Benny who that's a sensitive topic to me right
11:03
um let's talk about the next con so if you're someone that only follows
11:09
people that like have a that meet that very narrow definition of beauty or the
11:16
beauty standard this will absolutely affect your body
11:21
image and can hinder your
11:26
actions or your efforts toward body acceptance
11:32
yeah because that's all you're being exposed to that's all you know that's kind of like this is the norm this is what I
11:39
should look like when that's not the case there isn't an ideal body
11:44
shape and only seeing one type will
11:51
make it a little bit harder to maybe accept your body if you look a little bit different than whatever you're
11:57
following on your feet yeah diversity is important I'd say it applies to like race too like
12:04
if you're only following what you define as Beauty as just so
12:10
blonde white girl that's all you're going to think of as pretty beautiful whatever but there's
12:17
there's way more than just blonde white girls out there there are there are
12:23
yeah diversity all around we'll be good for your feet yeah
12:30
um next one we've discussed before on here many of times we've even done an
12:35
entire podcast episode where we reacted to these Trolls but trolls are the next con which
12:42
I guess I was I was gonna say that it will only really happen if you are Someone Like Us who's like intentionally
12:49
putting content out there um but like you could literally post anything in trolls will come after you even if you're not like having social
12:57
media no I actually someone we both know they started a
13:03
social media account where they are like pursuing sewing on
13:08
the side and they like posted a couple other pieces just to share and like they
13:15
wouldn't not to say that like only people with like really big families get hate
13:20
comments because I've seen hate comments everywhere yeah um but like they're in nasty comments
13:28
and I was like literally why like why did you why are
13:36
you hating on this person sewing like passion and what they created
13:42
and it just goes to show like literally like we kind of go after them sometimes
13:47
like sometimes we like to stir the pot a little bit but there's sometimes people are just
13:54
sharing what they like and they're gonna be trolls and haters and that's unfortunately how the world works
14:01
yeah and they're never they're not going to go away there's you're not gonna please everyone
14:07
and there's always going to be someone who's upset yeah and I guess even if you're not
14:13
posting content to receive comments I think even like scrolling through Tick Tock and reading all the hate comments
14:19
that can't be good for your health mental health either no like just seeing
14:25
them even if it's not towards you I'm sure it's still not going to be great for our brains yeah there's definitely a
14:31
mob mentality with it because like once one person starts being mean then everyone starts being mean
14:38
it's crazy out there people have too much time in their hands I know
14:45
like I I don't want to put myself on like on this High pedestal or whatever but like
14:51
I have never left a comment like that and I have no desire to I don't get where that comes from
14:56
I think the closest I've left to a hate comment was someone was saying that
15:01
we're controlled by the academy and I commented like they're actually not our
15:07
governing body if you like look this up that was so close that was the meanest
15:12
thing no but like
15:18
I don't know it's just a projection of people's like insecurities and like their own they're being miserable like
15:24
they're miserable their own lives but the time they have
15:31
when it's not just like one it's great remember that person I know you've had it too that person on my page
15:37
that was on there for 24 hours commenting and it went viral of course because Tick Tock was like hell yeah
15:48
like to you is that only like you sit on your phone and you're like that's so boring
15:56
get a hobby yeah different Hobby yeah
16:02
and it's always the ones that have like no profile picture oh yeah they have two followers
16:09
yeah and they I was talking to Bobby the other day and
16:15
I'm like these people should be glad I'm not more vengeful than I am because
16:21
digital footprints exist yeah and it's very use you you may think
16:28
you know how many they connected oh you do they're it's very easy to find if you know how
16:35
to find it but like yeah I'm sure they don't think about it have you been seeing Drew's posts on Tick Tock where
16:41
she like it goes to the commenters like Paige and like post a picture for a video I've
16:47
been living person that's so like where does this audacity come
16:54
she gets it bad she oh yeah she gets it bad I
17:00
and something I feel like remember until it's happening to me is
17:08
they get notifications for all the like intern conversations to happen I'm like because you're used
17:16
to just looking through the comment section you just see the top ones you aren't seeing at what's at the bottom or
17:21
what's happening in the arguments yeah so I don't even want to know
17:26
when she posts the DM she gets I'm like
17:32
how do people think this is okay or like pepperoni muffin she has her comments
17:37
too hers are also insane yeah and I'm like
17:43
you can if you really don't like someone you can block them oh yeah follow them
17:48
like there are people I just don't like I block them exactly like influencers that have millions of followers everyone
17:53
else likes I just don't for no reason but I'm not like on their page posting hate comments I just no block them dming
18:01
them racial slurs
18:07
oh my gosh but it's okay we trolls don't listen so like you guys already that's true no
18:13
we're not preaching to those who need to hear it right now hopefully if you guys
18:19
have ever gone to hate Comic you block them or you know it's coming from someone who's
18:25
just sad about their life and taking it out on others it's not about you no
18:32
next thing to note with social media is it's a highlight reel and people only
18:37
show you what they want to see and this case in point I know we so we were done
18:43
talking about him but liver King purposely did not host his what steroids
18:48
he's taking every morning or whatever I don't even know if he takes her every morning I have no idea
18:54
you should embrace this is this coming from his new right making his brand yeah he's like let's normalize steroids and
19:02
their side effects um but people choose what they post you
19:11
only see what they want you to see even when they post that vulnerable video or
19:16
that vulnerable picture where they're crying or something happen they wanted you to see that at the end of the day
19:22
they didn't accidentally stop oops I oh and hit post and added the filter
19:28
while I'm falling down hit record and hose and put up my ring light and I made
19:34
the angle look good now they are intentionally showing you that and it might be to show you like more
19:41
that vulnerable side which we do appreciate but they choose what you see
19:48
they aren't going to show you things they don't want you to see and that's something we tend to forget when we're
19:54
following people we really like especially people who just post about their lives so you feel like you know
20:00
everything but you're probably only seeing one or two hours of their life a week or so yeah
20:07
yeah like even those who are constantly seemingly constantly on there there's no way
20:14
you're seeing every single thing that's just not realistic unless they have like a live feed camera on them 24 7. God
20:19
that'd be terrible that sounds like something in Black Mirror let's I don't know what that is
20:28
it's a TV okay you wouldn't like it it's a TV show that's not happy
20:34
[Laughter] but it has a lot of like the purpose of
20:39
it is to make you like question things about our society so like that's really thought provoking but it's I would not
20:46
say it's a happy show um this would surprise our listeners that know this part of me but not you
20:53
um I'm watching the house of dragons Series right now oh my gosh how are you
20:59
episode five we just finished I think you're farther than I am oh really
21:05
Bobby and I haven't seen past the first time Jump because we're okay well I
21:10
won't tell you what I just I won't tell anyone I guess because it's a big spoiler what I just watched because that show is always got big things happening
21:17
you can't talk about really yeah are you liking it yes compared to Game of Thrones I don't know if I can compare
21:23
them they're just different I don't know I like them both but yeah I think that would be surprising to listeners who think that I just want
21:29
Happy shows it's the only show I watch that's not happening that's true Game of Thrones dragon are not happy no I just
21:35
watched like eight people die in this episode and like there's blood everywhere and like
21:41
yeah people cheating on three years yeah not great classic classic
21:46
Game of Thrones House of dragon things incest you know the whole yeah the yeah
21:52
well it wouldn't be Game of Thrones or House of Dragons without incest exactly
21:57
but yeah I want to tell you that and I guess now you guys get to know too I'm on I'm exciting episode five I wonder
22:04
yeah you need to watch it so we can talk about it okay I don't know once he's I know they were
22:11
confirmed for a season two after like just a couple episodes because of how popular it was
22:17
I don't know much about the books are there going to be other like spin-offs because there's been talk of them
22:25
there's been talk of a lot of spin-offs but I don't know if any are actually in the works
22:31
I guess they should focus on one at a time I'm sure it's a lot to produce a show like that yeah I always think about
22:37
that I don't know if anyone else does but like when I watch anything really I have to like I don't know what it is
22:42
about me I'm always thinking about like how they got the angle and like what props they had to like get to like do
22:49
that I think anyone's thinking I wouldn't say anyone I would say the majority of people I
22:54
don't think and I always like put myself in the shoes of like the crew so like
23:00
what jobs everyone's doing and like what they did that week to like prepare for that episode like
23:06
I'm always thankful for that kind of stuff I think maybe you have a different calling maybe you should be a producer I think I
23:13
would love that like it's like organized stuff and like it's always new because I get so bored
23:19
which is what happens in my own business is like I create something and then I'm like okay that was fun now what and so
23:25
like I've created multiple like ebooks and courses that have just like not gone anywhere because I create it and I'm
23:31
just like what's next yeah I don't want to like do the same thing forever so I think you're
23:37
right I feel like we've already hit our therapy part of the episode I know
23:43
this normally happens at the end I know Game of Thrones yeah I'm always thinking
23:49
like what what's everyone doing behind the scenes in this episode
23:56
and like how you like love the behind the scenes then of like any absolutely
24:01
and like the bloopers like all that kind of stuff where like it's that makes sense why you like the office ladies
24:08
podcast so much they just like break down the entire episode and like what every person's job was that week yeah
24:16
it's so fascinating
24:21
oh man there was they're not showing that social media or the show
24:26
none of that exactly good good segue back to us I was gonna
24:32
say sorry you're gonna say something worthwhile
24:37
let's move on okay all right last well our last con I'm sure there's
24:42
dozens more um our last con though for today's purposes is that
24:48
social media can create fomo or generate fomo which I was going to say I don't
24:55
experience because I just want to be home by myself with my dog and Ross but
25:00
I will say if it helps someone else relate to this I actually do experience it but I experience it more so in like
25:07
like a business standpoint for me personally like if someone in dietetics is like thriving in their business I'll
25:13
experience bummo that way so it may not be about like
25:18
experiences or like this person's on a really cool trip to Aruba
25:24
um but like other aspects of people's lives that you follow you might feel like jealous of and even like their body
25:31
and like they have maybe someone has like a really great relationship with food that you wish you had
25:37
um that kind of fomo could be something that could be worsened as well by social media that comparison side of it
25:45
exactly so whatever it is like man I didn't really be fomo I guess but the comparisonitis for sure is a big thing
25:51
yeah so let's talk about how to start your detox
25:57
step one go and log into your social media
26:03
platforms whether it's Facebook Instagram Tick Tock Pinterest YouTube
26:08
be real we'll throw in there too Snapchat
26:14
Twitter Tumblr Oh my God Myspace Myspace
26:22
well if I ever download Snapchat I want you to just like come to my house and
26:27
me in the face you know how I redownloaded it right yeah what's the update now what's your
26:34
Snapchat Journey all right the notifications have been off for years okay
26:40
um but I have like one or two friend groups that use it and that's the only reason yeah why I have it but much
26:49
better compared to where when we first met our Snapchat guys we're at that was
26:55
so weird that was like 2015 2016. I was embarrassed by my snap score
27:02
I remember I like compared it to you and Maddie and a couple other people and they're like Emily
27:08
why is your score so up and I'm like this is how people communicate that is not how I communicated absolutely not I
27:16
deleting the Snapchat for that time was one of the best decisions in my entire my I don't even know what it's used for
27:23
anymore to be honest is it the same thing I think so it's it's dying good so
27:29
I know I don't ever look at the ad section but
27:35
like when I look at it like nothing ever makes sense it's like weird click baby stuff that I'm just like
27:43
I don't have any interest in seeing this but yeah it's I don't I think it's
27:50
I think it's just much more popular with like high school and younger
27:55
I saw someone posted like you're above the age of like 22 or like
28:03
23 and someone asks you for your Snapchat like walk the other direction oh I'd
28:10
literally be like how old are you absolutely not you're a child that'd be illegal
28:15
I can't speak to someone who's younger than me um I was telling Ross the other day I
28:21
was like imagine if we had to like date in this day and age how terrible that high top I talked about this all the
28:27
time because I think I'm allowed to say this I don't think I I
28:33
I'm gonna read the rules of this before before we release this but in that
28:39
Facebook group I joined oh no I can I can say I'm in it okay
28:45
we're okay we're okay I'm not gonna get I really don't want to get kicked out of this group I'm interested I mean
28:51
a Facebook group called are we dating the same guy Chicago Edition
28:57
and I have been reading the stories
29:02
it's mostly like Tinder and hinge stories and
29:08
I don't think I'd survive no I would just be single forever and there are
29:13
some more like the comments are nice and they're like oh yeah I went out with him he's really nice and I've seen someone
29:18
like oh yeah I'm also getting coffee with him and I I just know that would
29:24
mess me up knowing like they're not exclusive not the like that's normal
29:32
apparently yeah you can do your thing whatever but that's not my vibe at all I
29:38
I'm very self-aware of how jealous of a person I am and how insecure when it
29:43
comes to dating I am we would not last no you wouldn't fall in love with people within like two days
29:51
exactly and I would have like six girlfriends yeah and I like overthink and get
29:57
incredibly jealous oh it's a good thing
30:03
we're not looking for that no thank God I hope I
30:10
never have to do that ever again not that it was that hard for me because I met Ross like a billion years ago but and at Taco Bell at Taco Bell we were
30:18
just folding burritos foreign tacos that is not that did not sound
30:26
right no we'll stick with the burritos so yeah I don't even know how we got
30:32
here oh yeah the dating pools the dating World sounds terrible
30:37
like oh cause Snapchat if some oh yes guy asked for my Snapchat
30:43
um no no no I feel like I'm
30:49
I can't talk to you this is this is against the wall
30:55
how old I am ugh but let's talk about the detox because we're getting sidetracked okay
31:02
yeah so the first step like Emily said is to just go to the platform so there are some that we think are more
31:09
toxic than others but just go through the ones that you use the most that you feel are leading to all those cons that
31:15
we already talked about and then step two you're gonna go to your profile and go to your following
31:22
list so who you follow you're gonna go through each person like each person that you follow ask yourself
31:29
why do I follow them what are they doing for me are they bringing me joy or is it
31:34
more I'm like compare myself to them do I feel neutral about them if that's the case I guess even then you could leave
31:40
it or just get rid of them on Instagram they have like a mute function where you can like not unfollow them but just like
31:47
mute them so you don't see their stuff like if it is like a friend from high school that you don't want to unfollow but you don't really want to see their
31:54
15 stories a day mute functions very nice yeah
31:59
foreign once you've done a little bit of reflection of
32:04
what type of emotions am I feeling about this person
32:11
if there's any type of feelings of like jealousy feeling insecure and adequate
32:18
unfollow them like even a little even like they won't take it personally even though I
32:25
definitely know and can speak from experience
32:31
um those silly like Instagram follower tracking apps oh my God I used to have that I would take that so personally if
32:37
someone involved but like they're gonna be upset for two seconds and then they're gonna move on
32:43
and if it's like an influencer with millions of followers they're not going to care I don't want to break it to you
32:48
but they don't know who you are no unless you are commenting
32:54
every single second of the day OG follower like I have a few that I
33:00
don't know personally but I know there might you recognize their names yeah I'd be sad about me that's true yeah
33:07
but they'll move on yeah so unfollow them you don't have to like there's no purpose in following
33:14
accounts that don't make you feel good about yourself right
33:19
and it doesn't include just influencers or other people
33:25
it could be like Brands it could be just certain types of things you see on your
33:30
feeds you can like say not interested and it doesn't have to be people you follow it could also be like I'm Tech
33:38
talk you can block people you can just just block them like I see like a type
33:43
of video I don't like like if someone posts like a what I eat in the day that is very problematic I'll just put not
33:49
interested so I can't get any of those anymore yeah it doesn't have to be as
33:54
intense as an unfollow or a block it could be not interested so
34:01
some other good questions related to food we can think about with the content
34:07
we're seeing on our social media is we can think about does this account make us feel bad
34:13
about your life or your body if it does unfollow or don't not
34:18
interested does the account try to motivate you to change something out the way you look that includes
34:24
weight loss and pushes the idea that weight loss is better might not be good for your mental health
34:31
might be a good idea to do not interested or mute or blah or unfollow
34:38
does it promote restricting the foods that you eat and
34:45
this one I always like to look at who's saying it and then I think about
34:51
what is their purpose here is it food fear-mongering how are they going about educating it but if they're just like
34:58
Downy this it's toxic and poisonous
35:04
probably not going to be a great account and honestly anyone who speaks like that I don't know how credible they are
35:11
might be good for screw for unfollowing next one to think about is does it
35:17
compare or scrutinize bodies with side by side comparison post does it perpetuate like any type of ideas of
35:24
once again like judging you people's bodies body checking anything like that
35:29
that there's just that hyper awareness around bodies and whatnot might not be great from a body image
35:36
standpoint body acceptance standpoint and then does it promote exercise as a
35:42
means to change your body rather than focusing on how it feels or other health benefits
35:48
if they just push it for like changing your body might not be a great account why do you want to hit that not
35:54
interested and then does it fail to represent individuals of different shapes ages and
35:59
ethnicities and this is one of my favorite ones because if you get so tunneled in to one thing
36:07
not only does it make your mind a lot more narrow-minded about make your mind more
36:14
narrow-minded make your vision or perception of the world a little bit more narrow-minded there we go
36:21
and you're like oh this is what everyone looks like and this is what everyone should look like well you're in you're
36:27
only setting yourself up for failure because I'm not absolutely unfortunately fortunately
36:34
we live in a world with all different types of people what they
36:39
look like their ages their ethnicities and that's what is exciting because if we all look the same that'd be weird and
36:46
we'd all be oh my God that's so weird like I'd be kind of afraid and like
36:52
twins are really cool but like imagine if like everyone will be exactly imagine an entire world of like
36:58
two different looking people how'd that work like how would you
37:03
like base like attraction like speaking of dating like would that even be a thing would people have to start caring
37:10
about personalities right ew just kidding
37:17
yeah it matters that's weird that's scary it's cool that we have
37:24
different shapes and colors and what else do humans have
37:29
to offer personalities personalities Aid ages gender
37:36
it's fine it makes it way more interesting like yeah
37:41
there isn't one a one-size-fit-all to the beauty standard so we should make sure that our feed
37:47
doesn't reflect that as well it so now that you've detoxed your feed
37:54
probably is blank or your following is probably blank zero hopefully you were
38:00
not at zero hopefully you're not because you had already done some of these things hopefully our podcast is still in
38:06
your following yeah exactly um but now it's time to replenish if you
38:12
would like to um we'll include in the show notes some
38:17
of our favorite people to follow um we won't really like rattle those off here but it's time to fill with more positive fee
38:25
or more positive accounts uh bonus points that they discuss intuitive eating or health at every size if it is
38:32
a different um if it's adding diversity to what you usually would follow
38:38
um in terms of like body size ethnicity whatever um those are the ones that you want to
38:43
spice it up with yeah so overall social media can be a really
38:50
great opportunity to connect with people connect with people around the world with friends family learn new
38:56
information but also unfortunately it can be a scary
39:01
place full of a lot of not so healthy
39:07
healthy quote not so great
39:13
uh nutrition information and it's not that well regulated so great news is you
39:20
can control a lot of what you see to a point yeah with those not interested
39:26
buttons those blocking buttons those unfollowing buttons and those following buttons because we want to
39:33
give some people some love who are trying to advocate for
39:39
Good Vibes in diversity Good Vibes and diversity that's that's oh my God that
39:46
should be our tagline that is I'm all about that that is that's our new slip we don't
39:54
have a slogan let's make a good boxing diapers
40:00
I want a t-shirt that says that that's great yeah but yes I second all of that
40:06
you can to a degree curate a feed that is not so toxic and there's a lot of
40:12
tools thankfully on these platforms to help you do so okay the bonus question I want to
40:18
explain it because it's kind of confusing the way I worded it I was not quite sure if you'd know what I mean by this but it goes back to our whole
40:23
SnapChat thing so the bonus question is what does your preferred social media platform say
40:30
about you and so what I want to do is go through like the big ones talk about like if you're a big Snapchat junkie
40:36
what does that say about you we're gonna do some like personality trait thing yeah so like imagine like that 17
40:43
magazine when you were younger a little like flow it would do okay
40:49
so let's do Snapchat first since we've been talking about it if you prefer Snapchat it's like if you go to your
40:56
like iPhone settings or whatever it's one that you spend the most time on according to your phone
41:01
settings or whatever who are you like What's your deal if Snapchat is your number one thing yeah
41:09
if you're a Snapchat or if Snapchat is your preferred social media of choice
41:14
you are a 15 year old I was gonna say 13 yep and
41:21
you live with your parents and
41:27
you go to school eight hours a day rough and you
41:34
enjoy the Emojis next to people's names and but you also get really upset and
41:40
hung up on when your best friend Emoji changes
41:46
and there might be some need for development in the connections
41:53
I are appreciating the connections you can make
41:59
but you love to take pictures and you love to share that experience with your
42:06
friends but also sometimes you struggle to know how to communicate
42:13
I like it I was gonna add like a visual like an aesthetic I think you wear
42:18
low-rise jeans the baggy ones which no hey I want to pull it off I just can't I'm a millennial
42:25
um low-rise jeans one of those like like right up to your boobs kind of crop top like the tight long sleeve yeah
42:33
um you've got like the really chunky New Balance sneakers which I just got some
42:38
new balances for Christmas from Ross I love them they're not like the dad ones though they're like okay I'll show you a
42:43
picture they're very cute in my opinion but anyway you were like the big like Dad like mowing New Balances
42:51
mowing watch yeah yeah um which looks super cute on you because
42:56
you're 13. um yeah yeah that's how I would describe
43:02
them how about it I'm gonna do how they dress I guess in each of these apparently it's gonna be okay I'll do personality how they dress okay
43:10
should we do Instagram now hey I was gonna say and if you're a guy you
43:15
probably are 30 years old and have never been a serious relationship no no no no no no no only half Kitty
43:26
let's do wait which one do you say Instagram Instagram is your preferred
43:35
I have beef with Instagram so you guys know if Instagram at this point in 2022
43:42
after what Instagram has put us all through is your preferred
43:47
social media you think you're too good for tick tock yes
43:55
because you want real Instagram reels day in and day out but you refuse to
44:00
download that Chinese app and you're better than everyone I forgot about that
44:07
whole Scandal or like literally like the American government does not have
44:13
our information already okay but okay do we not remember the Facebook Scandal
44:19
like they they have your information it just matter what which country has it
44:24
I mean that was me I was scared to download it because I was like I'm gonna get murdered by someone apparently
44:32
my identity stolen yeah if Instagram's your Preferred Choice you
44:38
love Instagram reels you think they're the funniest thing in the world um you're probably no I'm not gonna be a
44:45
hater I am going to be a hater actually I'm a hater to my cohort um you're probably watching things and
44:52
hearing like the corn song right now and maybe you're watching if it's a bones or
44:59
no bones day did you say that he died he
45:05
yeah why am I just now finding out about this I know wait how old was he is it my for
45:13
you page he was old he was an old little guy oh my God I know the the owner of my for
45:19
you page I didn't even follow them and I saw the news yeah I know oh my god well if you're on Instagram
45:26
you'll be hearing about this in six months um You probably
45:35
I was gonna say you probably love photo dumps but if you like Photo dumps you're probably on visco you're not on
45:40
Instagram I don't really know what vesco is I mean I know what it is it's like a I think it's just it's like a aesthetic
45:46
photo app I think the visco and Snapchat people are friends
45:53
I can see that they like hang out on the weekends yeah
45:58
yeah Instagram though if if Instagrams you're preferred I just don't have words for
46:05
you I'm trying to think of like something you're really loyal I'll say that you're that's true you're a very
46:11
loyal person good for you despite all the changes they Instagram put you through you stuck
46:19
to them and you our good friend yeah a good significant
46:26
other because you'll stick with someone even if they change for the worse which could be
46:32
not good yeah I agree
46:39
um I need to preface Mine by saying that what someone chooses to wear is always their choice I'm wearing a Goodwill
46:45
sweater I got like five years ago that was from Goodwills was probably like 30 years old so you get to pick what you
46:51
wear of course but the Instagram lover is wearing American Eagle skinny jeans
46:58
those like black combat boots that we all had in like high school well when we
47:04
were in high school or maybe like um like some Jesus sandals but like the
47:12
ones that are like way out of date yeah um like the braided the braided ones or
47:18
Old Navy flip-flops yeah um probably wearing
47:24
like a t-shirt and a cardigan over it oh maybe some Ugg boots but Uggs are coming back apparently Alex are the the short
47:31
uggs are yeah the mini ones not the remember the sparkly ones the sequin ones oh man those were so
47:39
cool like if you had those in like 2012 you were cool you were a cool kid you were
47:47
cool and you were loaded good for you and your family was your parents were willing to spend that money
47:54
on the ugliest shoes in the world oh my gosh so funny I still have my Uggs from high
47:59
school which I think I ripped mine shows how sturdy they are you are oh yeah I was
48:06
gonna say you were loyal are you an Instagram I am not an Instagram lover I mean I use
48:12
Instagram obviously but I would not say it's my preferred I feel like we're going to just describe ourselves
48:18
when we do what you think tick tocks I guess you're a Pinterest Tick Tock is not my preferred I was gonna say YouTube
48:25
um I love YouTube but I also really like Pinterest I don't know what mine is I kind of hate all of
48:32
them I mean Fair like that's okay I think I use Instagram the most
48:39
yeah but I don't identify with any of the things that we are describing no and
48:45
that's okay it shows you can get along with things
48:50
that don't aren't similar to you yes that's the end of the things that aren't similar
48:55
okay we might just speed this up we're going quite slow I know we don't have to do all of them let's just let's do Tick
49:01
Tock and let's do YouTube okay and we'll throw in an honorable mention for
49:07
Pinterest okay and an honorable mention for Twitter because I have things to say about Twitter okay
49:12
let's do Facebook if you're Facebook you're if your preferred choices
49:17
Facebook you're probably 75 years old honestly 40 plus 40 plus you're right
49:24
you're right who am I to and we're not sure we're not far from that no we are
49:30
oh my but like closer we're closer to 40.
49:39
hold on this math made sense in my head and it's not it's not making sense hold on I'm taking that back I was supposed
49:46
to say something very dumb I mean we're closer to 30 than we are 20.
49:56
wow we're old yeah this is this is it so
50:02
anyway if you're 40 plus and Facebook's your preferred social media you probably
50:08
it's respective you probably post about any little okay but honestly I
50:17
feel like people on Facebook were just experiencing what we experienced on
50:22
Facebook when it first came out like we were posting every single stupid thought we had on there and like
50:28
posting like random pictures and like not like
50:34
it was more fun back then now it was now maybe it's just like our age group now
50:40
it's just like life events and people complaining about things right who's having a baby what president do you not
50:46
like who got married who had a bridal shower that's literally it that's
50:52
literally it but you know you're probably over 40. what is what
50:58
are they wearing I think it honestly might be very similar to the Instagram
51:04
outfits I was thinking maybe the like you know that print that everyone hates
51:12
which one like the one like they put it on like
51:18
candles and it says like cat mom or like oh need more wine like runs for lips
51:26
yeah like that that is on their shirt oh my God yes you're right
51:33
you're right they wear a lot of teal oh yes yeah
51:38
teal and orange yeah are you like the Chevron that pattern
51:46
big chunky necklaces yeah I feel like we're just going after women we are not
51:52
misogynistic by the way I think if we were describing men I'd be
51:58
much meaner yeah I just don't know what kind I don't know about men I know they all wear the same things I
52:05
know and I mean that as an insult the only men I I work in a field of mostly
52:11
women yeah I have I think like Ross my dad and Ross's dad are the only
52:20
men that I communicate with on a regular basis it's like your dad's kind of fashionable
52:29
he wears these jeans we call that he's listening to us right now so hi Dad I love you he wears these jeans that we
52:35
call TJ's which stands for his teen jeans
52:42
they're think like Buckle I know you know what Buckle is I do like Buckle think like those like really cowboy-ish
52:50
like oh like the equivalent of like the the women's like sequin sparkly ones for
52:57
men like they're just I don't I don't I'll find a picture and show you okay dad
53:03
sent me a picture of your TJ so I can show Emily and share it with the world [Laughter] please he has good fashion my mom always
53:11
like talks about how she has to get his clothes though because like he won't buy his own clothes yeah
53:18
which that's how I am like I love the idea of cute clothes but I don't ever spend money on them hence the Goodwill
53:24
sweater is probably 30 years old anyway anyway
53:31
let's Instagram if you're if your preferred Source okay
53:37
if you're a guy in your preferred social media's Instagram you probably only
53:43
follow models I was just gonna say that Instagram influencers you're the one who's dming pepperoni muffin those weird
53:50
yeah leave her alone yeah weirdo
53:56
I don't know what you wear probably cargo shorts probably
54:01
or and this is wrong but sports shorts and t-shirt
54:07
I feel like they all were literally like I don't know what guys wear I don't know Ross literally has the same outfit on
54:14
different colors every single day I don't know this is about to be a very
54:19
big generalization but in my experience on social media I don't know if I've
54:24
ever seen like non-t-shirt wearing men
54:32
insult people on the internet not on t-shirt so you're saying the
54:37
T-shirt wears are the ones who insult people yeah and it's always like the most Bland outfit I've ever seen
54:44
like I'm like wow I wore that when I was 11. yeah
54:50
no I didn't we were fashionable back then we thought we were yeah with our eyes and skinny jeans I was gonna say I
54:58
have another one for the instagramer um actually but I don't know I think there's two kinds of instagramers like
55:03
the really chewy millennial who's doing like the skinny jeans and the the booties and all that if you see
55:11
so I made a post that only it's chewy to say I know I am now I
55:18
am part of that but it's either them or it's the
55:24
like the over the top like Instagram model types I I agree so it's like and they stop
55:32
to photos and they're doing well yeah because they're hot yeah
55:38
yeah so they're the ones doing like the which I want to pair the like yoga pants that are in right now the flare ones uh
55:45
quarter zip from Lululemon yeah yeah uh claw clip all that
55:54
yeah so I go back on that we this could be a whole episode I don't know what if we
56:00
should do like a part two of this one next week we let's do that come back next time to find out what
56:07
YouTube Tick Tock and Twitter and picture star yeah well
56:14
yeah because we've been we have lots to say apparently okay
56:21
any whom detox your social media
56:26
take care of yourself hit that unfollow button hit that block button it's
56:33
rejuvenating it really is I know Tim would recommend and like
56:39
nope I'll save it we're done we always do this we're done all right we'll we'll catch you next time
56:45
tune in next week to find out what our pick what
56:53
your social media preferred preferences about me oh my God
57:01
all right let's end this let's end this okay guys thanks for coming bye
